When the first explosion occurred, I was still unaware of what was happening. It was only when the second and third ones came that I understood the situation at hand. I viewed the smoked-out skyline in awe. Three explosions had gone off, each in different areas of the fairground. The resulting cloud of smoke was pitch black and it rolled over itself upwards into the air. A fire was quickly consuming a large tent in the center of the park. From far away, the sounds of the scene were muffled, but were noticeably different from what they had been before the bombs. A great terror washed over me. I immediately thought about the people at the fair. I wasn’t thinking about anyone in particular. Not even Anna, who I had just seen run back to the fairground.
