There is nothing I would not do to be able to walk away like she does, but this is my ceremony and I am not just able to leave. My mother walks up to me, her face bearing a worried frown
" Is everything alright, why did Flora hit you" she asks and I smile back
" It's nothing"
" Are you sure, you two are sisters you should not be fighting" she urges
" Yes mom, are you enjoying the party" I ask again and she smiles
" The Brentwoods have been very generous" she offers again and I nod, that is the most we can hope for. Kane's father has been very welcoming rumors say his mother has not been in their lives for years now and they seem to be fine without her.
I see him walking towards me, he looks tired and worn out, I wonder if this is because if his argument with Flora
" Good day Mrs Campbell" he said softly to my mother and I smile
" I'm well, I came to get Bree, it's time for the couples dance" he says and she smiles to him seemingly enchanted
" Of course you two should have fun" I try not to laugh, that she thinks we can have fun proves to me just how delusional my mother is.
" Bree" Kane says offering his hand, I take it and follow him as he leads me to the dance floor, his arms circle around my waist and mine goes around his neck. And soon we're swaying to the music. He seems to want to say something, starting and then stopping just over a dozen time, finally he says
" That kiss earlier–"
" I told you,in public the perfect couple, in the privacy of our home, you can do whatever you want to" I shrug. He glares at me as if angry
" Have you always been this cold " he asks and I smile albeit sadly
" I have to protect myself" I reply simply, I don't tell him that I would be different if I could, that my wolf is dying at his silent rejection.
I don't tell him that if the world were less cruel to me I would open up more , because the truth is I am barely managing, everyday I go to bed and I wonder why as an omega I am still alive, I do not have the answer yet but maybe if I try more I will. We dance for a while, one set ends and another begins,the crowd watches us as we move, the picture of a peaceful couple, if they knew that Kane can barely tolerate me, most of them would be happy, none of them would be surprised because to them I'm the ugly duckling who got lucky and married a prince.
Suddenly I feel suffocated,my wolf trying to tear it's way through. I take my hand out of Kane's even before the music stops, I'm aware of the people watching in surprise but I don't care, I rush out of the room to the garden trying for several deep breaths, I don't want this but I can't escape, my skin feels numb and yet feels raw as if all my nerves are exposed.
The garden door opens and I hear voices, my stepfather's voice
" I'll get her I'm sure it's just nerves" he mutters to whoever is on the other side of the door. The door clicks shut and he strides towards me, in no particular rush, his heel clicking against the floor
" What is your problem" he asks and I shake my head
" Nothing"
" Get up" he says impatiently, I rise slowly, weak from my earlier panic
" f*****g stand Bree, Christ" he mutters, irritated once I'm on my feet
" I don't know what your problem is but you'll stuff it. You've always been a weird child, and I made allowances for you–" he rambled and I try to force myself not to scoff, if he means ignoring my entire existence, and leveling insults at me the few times he does manage to see me ,then yes he did make allowances.
" But I will not let you ruin all I've worked for, this alliance will elevate our family and you will smile ,laugh,or cry to make that family like you"
" If your mate can bring himself to touch you , you'll f**k him. Have I made myself clear Bree" he grits. I look to him and nod
" I understand"
" Get out there, you have to take pictures and then go for your honeymoon" he instructs dragging me to the door, he smiles when it opens
" She was just tired " he offers to Kane I smile
" I'm sorry, I was a bit dizzy" I offer, Kane nods
" We have to take pictures" he says reaching for my hand I pull away and step into hall, most people are no longer paying attention. I join Kane near the stairs and the strings of photos begin, cameras flash, with him, then with his father,then mine,and all together. By the time we are done I'm exhausted, the sun is almost down.
" You both will travel tomorrow" Ash's father Nick says and I nod he turns to my father
" Today was a success" my father nods
" Hmm yes, I'm glad it all turned out excellently" as I look to both men I can't tell why they are in a business together, both are so different from the other
"you both have a good time " Nick mutters
" Yes I think so too" I reply and he smiles and gestures to Kane to come closer
" You be careful" my father warns and I nod , I look over to Kane where he and his father seem to be in a heated conversation as well.
" If you mess this up, I'll kill you " he growls his wolf seeping through in warning
" I understand"

I change into comfortable clothes and go down stairs, I hug my mother, give my father a slight nod and then turn to Kane who is waiting by a nice convertible. He has dark sunglasses fitted over his face so I can not see his eyes, and his back seat seems to have my luggage. The rest of my thing will be sent from my home by the time we're back. I meet him at his car
" Good morning" I greet and he nods
" Morning, get in we're almost late" he says softly. I open the door and get in, he closes it and turns around to drive.
We get to the airport, it is a private hangar for the pack my father would be envious of this for sure. We get in the plane and begin the two hours journey to a private vacation home, another thing my father will find envy in. We don't say a word to each other for the rest of the flight. Kane pulls out his laptop and buries his face into it. I take my k****e and open a book I have been reading for almost two weeks, maybe I can finish it on this flight.
We touch down around noon, a driver takes my luggage while Kane brings his with him, I smile at the driver and he gives a polite nod. The drive to the house is thirty minutes, as the we wind down the roads I wonder if I can get art supplies in town,
" How far are the shops " I ask, Kane turns to me in surprise, I guess he did not think I would talk to him.
" Not to far, five minutes out. What do you need " he asks and I shrug
" Garden supplies, "
" We'll send someone when we are settled" he replies
" Thank you" I offer
The house is beautiful, nothing too gaudy, I can imagine a family here, children running around the yard, it is a life I will never have, but one I would have loved to have. I take my bag and go upstairs picking a room furthest from Kane's and unpack, I call my mom and let her know I am safe and then I go down to the dining room
" Dinner has been set up" Kane says gesturing to the table as he closes his laptop, I nod and sit, and serve myself
" The maid will come in the mornings leave a note on the fridge if you have instructions" he says and I nod we eat the rest of our meal in silence, I go up the stairs and into my room.My phone pings and I pick it up it's a message from Flora
Make room for guests!
A simple message, I am not sure what it means,but I am resolved.
I can't let this keep me down,there is no going back from this mating at least not until a few years. But I'll be damned if I let Kane, Flora or anyone else walk all over me again.
With that resolve made I go to bed happy, but I guess I should not have been too hasty in my celebration. I wake up the next morning sunlight streaming through my room as I blink slowly, I stretch then climb off the bed wrapping a robe info downstairs, there is a knock on the door then the electric bell rings, I get down, the door is blown wide open and Flora is in Kane's arms her lips on his in a kiss that is passionate her legs wrapped around his waist.
" Hello Bree, missed me" she calls out, turning to face me
" So , where is my room"
