Mark's phone ring " Who the hell would call at 2am!" He saw his mother's name appear on the screen. He answers "Hi Mom what's wrong?" He could barley make understand what she said through the tears. " Mark,Sophie is in the hospital you better get here quick". Mark jump out of bed and rushes to the hospital, his heart pounding with fear. When he arrives, his mother is waiting for him outside Sophie's room. Tears streak her face, and Mark can tell that something is seriously wrong. "What happened?" he asks, his voice choked with emotion. "Mark, Sophie has cancer" "Kayla called me in the middle of the night," his mother says. "Sophie was in so much pain that she couldn't move. They had to call an ambulance to bring her here." Mark feels like he's been punched in the gut. He can't bear the thought of Sophie suffering like this. He takes a deep breath and tries to steady himself. Why didn't she tell him. "Can I see her?" he asks. "Yes, of course," his mother says. "But be prepared, Mark. It's not good." Mark nods and follows his mother into the room. Sophie is lying in the hospital bed, her face contorted in pain. She's hooked up to machines that beep and whirr, and Mark can see the fear in her eyes. He hasn't taken care of her. The last time he saw her she looked pale, but he thought she was just tired. If he had just paid more attention...he scolded himself. "Mark," she says, her voice weak. "I'm so glad you're here." "I'm here, Sophie," he says, taking her hand. "I'm not going anywhere." Sophie squeezes his hand and closes her eyes, trying to breathe through the pain. Mark stays by her side all night, holding her hand and talking to her. He can feel her slipping away from him, and he knows that he has to be strong for her. As the sun begins to rise, Sophie's breathing becomes more labored. Mark knows that the end is near. "Sophie," he says softly, leaning close to her ear. "I love you. You've been the light of my life, and I'll never forget you." Sophie opens her eyes and smiles weakly at him. "I love you too, Mark," she says. "Take care of the children." "I will," he promises. Sophie take one last shuddering breath, and then she's gone. Mark sits by her side, holding her hand. When he realized she was gone, he let out blood curdling scream like someone was cutting out his heart. After Sophie's body had been taken away Mark still sat in the conner of the room staring at the bed where Sophie had been a few hour ago. How is hw going to live without her, she had been the light is his life , his north star and now she's gone. Mark stop eating barely sleeping, he was a walking corpse. Elaine did not know how to pull him out of this dark place. Then came the funeral. Andrea had picked white Lillies, the were Sophie's favorite. Everyone got up and said their Goodbyes. Then it was Mark's turn. " I have no idea what to say. The sadness and i walk with is unbearable. I will never again hear you laugh or see you play with the childre . Never again will i be able to be with you to just talk and play video games. Sophie, you were the greatest love of my life. So this is not goodbye just.
