Chapter FOUR
The sun was still shy about rising when Denise met Paul King in front of her apartment. Wordlessly, she watched him put her suitcases in the back seat. When he had finished she stepped into the car and in a moment was whirred away to all that awaited her at the Tanner Camp several hundred miles away.
It was still quite dark inside the car. Denise was glad. She was more than willing to remain concealed, even if it was only as temporary as the sun's awakening. She did not speak when she settled in the car. Nor did Paul King, who glanced at her, registered a look of satisfaction for her appearance, then turned his full attention to moving the car away from the city.
