Chapter SIX
Denise jerked awake. She sat upright in the big double bed and looked around. It was dark, both within the room and outside the window she turned to. Her body trembled and she continued to feel the pains of some dream panic that had taken her, but then she reached her hand beside her and felt the heavy chest of Tanner breathing evenly. Immediately, she calmed. She lay back on the bed, sinking her head into the soft pillow.
Denise remained quiet but awake for several minutes. Her hand remained on Tanner's naked chest, rising and falling with every inhalation of his breath. She smiled. She turned her body a bit on her side, then curled her nakedness into that of her pretend-husband. And a new tremble shook her. It was not of fear. It came from the instant growth of desire that
