My mind was running different scenarios of how this happened. No way had Nigel manage to set this up. I mean he was good but not this good. I also tried to remember if I had seen Minjun's name on the list of guests for the conference and my mind came up empty. My only conclusion was that this was all a big misunderstanding and not only did I probably make some poor girl called Anna miss what was meant to be her job, but I was also in deep s**t and probably missing the actual conference I was meant to attend.
Thinking quickly, I turned to Yeji and grabbed her arm lightly.
"Can I talk to you on the side?" I asked her as I dragged her to the other side of the room. She looked confused as I did but I had to clear this up there and then before I got into an even bigger hole than I was in. I turned back slightly to make sure that Minjun was still standing where he was and I noticed that he was now conversing with another hot Asian man in Korean.
"Okay. So there's been a huge misunderstanding." I began once I was sure we were out of ear shot.
"What do you mean?" She asked raising her eyebrows in confusion.
"The girl you were waiting for? Yeah that's not me. I think it's the Anna you were talking about." I said.
"Didn't you say you were going to hall 21?" She asked.
"Yes. For an international conference on climate change." I replied.
"Oh we are also here for the same conference. But it's in hall 12." She clarified and I cursed inwardly for messing up the numbers. Trust my anxiety induced mind to mess up the numbers in an important situation.
"That was my fault for getting the numbers wrong. I'm really really sorry about this. " I apologized sincerely and Yeji went quiet for a few seconds though it felt like hours . And I watched as she looked deep in thought. I wondered what was running in her mind and would give anything to have the ability to read minds at that moment. I bet I was about to be thrown out of here like trash. I was half expecting her to shout at me for messing everything up at such a crucial time for them. But she surprised me with her next words.
"What's your background?" She asked.
"Umm...I did media and communications." I responded quickly.
"And what were you going to do at the conference?" She asked.
"I was planning to wow some of the guests with my PR skills in the hopes that I manage to land a contract with at least one of them." I said, playing with my nails, a habit I did when I was nervous and anxious.
"Great! Then you can think of Minjun as your client." She said her eyes, lighting up and showing emotion for the first time since I met her.
"I'm sorry?" I asked confused, half wondering if I had heard her correctly.
"Anna isn't here. And quite frankly she's late by over an hour anyway so she's out of the job. And since you practically do the same thing, it's a win win situation. You are looking for a client, and one just happens to be in this room. Not to mention that we don't have enough time to go over everything. If anything this is a fated encounter and I'd like to think luck is on your side today Jaz." She said.
I was quiet for a few seconds as I took in what she had said. Everything she said was true. I needed a job and one just happen to drop on my laps. This was a once in a lifetime chance and I would be a fool to not take it. As unprepared as I was.
Luckily, not only did I know a lot about the conference after researching about it for two weeks, but I also knew about Minjun.
You see the reason I was as shocked as I was is because I Ahlam happened to be one of his biggest fan.
When we became friends, she not only introduced me to Kdramas but also Kpop. And her favorite group happened to be the Wanted. A third generation Korean idol group comprised of six members signed under Galaxy Entertainment And Kim Minjun was one of them. And because of her obsession with them, I happened to also learn about them. We watched all their concerts virtually as we never got the chance to watch one live, their vlive videos and their reality shows that were aired almost weekly on their YouTube page. I happened to like their songs and had slowly become one of their fans though I listened to other groups too so I liked to think that I was a multi fandom kpop fan.
Ten years of watching them, I knew almost everything about them that they obviously showed the public. The entire group was made up of extremely hot guys, who were tall and buff ( considered one of the beastly Kpop groups cause of their physical look) which they didn't shy away from showing off when they performed.

I had no favorites per say as I found all of them to be quite favorable and they complemented each other quite well. But silently I liked the naughty ones in the group more than the rest. Ahlam's bias on the other hand was none other than Kim Minjun aka Kai himself. Just picturing her face as I told her about today was bringing delight to me. The fact that I met her fave idol would absolutely kill her, hypothetically speaking.
I remembered that Yeji was still waiting for my answer so I kept my thoughts in the back banner for now.
"Wouldn't that be considered cheating though?" I asked her concerned.
"What he doesn't know won't kill him. Besides, I'm the boss here. So if I say the job is yours then it is. You just have to do your job well and everything else will follow." She told me giving me an encouraging smile. And I felt slightly comforted by the smile and warmth I got from her. In a way it made me confident to take up this challenge. I mean this was my first major gig but I was good at what I did. All I had to remember was that. With a deep sigh, I looked at her with a new found confidence.
"Okay. I'll do it." I said squaring my shoulders.
"That's it. I knew you could take this. Now remember what I told you. " She said as we walked back to the main area of the livingroom where Kai was talking to the other guy.
"Don't worry about it. I got this." I said smiling confidently at her while on the inside I was a nervous wreck.
"Done with your small meeting already?" Kai asked as he finally faced us and I was assaulted by how handsome he was. It had to be a crime to be this hot. From his handsome angelic face ( Gorgeous brown eyes, long lashes, cute nose, deep dimpled cheeks and pink lips) to his perfectly tall lean muscled physic, the man was a sight to behold. He basically commanded the room with his aura. I was having a hard time trying to calm my nerves as was and his presence was doing nothing to calm me.
"Yes actually. Just a little debrief. " Yeji answered him crossing her arms.
"Jaz this is Choi Mingyu, Kai's manager. CM this is Jaz. She's going to be the new PR manager for Kai here. " Yeji introduced me to the other hot guy who smiled politely at me and stretched out his hand for a handshake which I took.
"If she survives." Kai said lowly but loud enough that we all heard him. And that triggered something in me. I didn't like his arrogant comment nor did I like his tone. And it was like I was no longer nervous as my annoyance took over. By then he had walked over to the other side and sat down on the couch as he scrolled his phone, practically ignoring us.
"What makes you think I won't survive?" I asked him. My question seemed to take him aback as he looked up and locked eyes with mine, his cold ones meeting my fiery ones. I could tell that Yeji and CM were watching us with interest but I was unfazed.
"Oh she's feisty. However, I've met other people like you and they always end up running away with their tails in between their legs even before the week is over." He replied then went back to his phone. My annoyance was now at 70%.
"Well you don't know me. And it's awefully rude to assume that from past experiences. I see now why you need a PR manager. With that type of personality, it's a wonder you've managed to keep up such a clean appearance. Sir." I said crossing my arms. He looked back at me, raising an eyebrow at me as if asking what I was doing.
Well you and me both buddy. I was practically talking down on my boss. My attitude was the reason I was out of a job in the first place. And I had told myself multiple times that I needed to learn to compose myself. But something about Kai just rattled me. And I'd be damned if I let him walk all over me.
"I like her." I heard CM whisper to Yeji and I smiled inwardly proudly.
"I know." She responded.
"I keep my image clean cause I'm smart. And I don't need a PR manager to help me keep it as I've told Yeji multiple times." He responded arrogantly.
"I'd like to think she has your best interest at heart seeing as you lack people skills." I responded and I heard a chuckle beside me which turned into a cough when Kai glared at the culprit.
"Thank you Jaz. Now since time is of the essence, I'll give you the template with the questions and the topics of discussion that Kai will be subjected to at the conference so that you guys can go over it together." Yeji said and walked over to the coffee table and took one of the expensive Samsung tablets and walked back towards me, handing it to me. Kai rolled his eyes and went back to scrolling his phone.
"This will be your work tablet. Everything you need is in there. CM and I will leave you two to get over with it and we'll come for you both in say then next ten minutes?" She said.
I opened the screen of the tablet, reading over the probable questions that Kai was going to be asked and it was up to me to fill out the appropriate answers. For ten minutes I had my work cut out for me.
"You can trust me." I said semi confident with a smile on my face. This was my one shot at getting a good gig. And if all went well then I was set for a while. And that's all I needed for now. So with that in mind, I squared my shoulders with courage to face what would be the longest, most crucial ten minutes of my life.
Yeji and CM left the room after my reply and after a small pep talk, I got to work.
