CHAPTER THREE

"we have less than two minutes." I said to Kai as I pinched the bridge of my nose, frustrated. "And we have covered all the grounds." Kai argued back ,still scrolling on his phone. He had barely even glanced my way since we began going over the questions. To say I was annoyed and frustrated would be an understatement. I was seconds away from smashing his face with that phone. Or the tablet in my hands. "You know what? Since you are so confident about yourself, then I'll let you do you." I said placing the tablet on the coffee table before me as I stood up. "Giving up already?" He asked looking up from his phone, amusement in his eyes as he smirked at me like he had finally won. "No. I'm teaching you a valuable lesson. One that your grown ass needed a long time." I said rolling my eyes. "And what lesson is that?" He asked, raising one perfect eyebrow. "You'll see for yourself." I said and this time it was my turn to smirk at him. Just then the door opened and Yeji and C.M walked in. "Guys. It's time. I hope you are ready." Yeji said smiling at us. "I'm always ready." Kai said as he stood up, putting his phone in his pants pocket. I checked him out briefly appreciating how sexy he looked in his designer black pants suit and white dress shirt, with two of the top buttons opened, revealing his muscled bronze skin and black leather loofahs . His semi long black hair that had hints of blue highlights was styled and gelled to perfection adding to his handsomeness. Too bad he had a rotten personality. I chuckled at his remark earning a glare from him, a questioning glance from Yeji and a knowing smirk from C.M. God bless them for being able to withstand his ego and personality without actually causing harm to him. I was starting to reconsider whether this was a good idea to begin with. And whether I should just let this job go even before I began. But my mama didn't raise a quitter. Though I was counting minutes to when I would finally snap. "We should leave now." C.M said before Yeji asked her question which I could clearly see from her eyes was burning her on the inside. I had a feeling she rarely kept her thoughts to herself. I went to the kitchen to get a bottle of water from the fridge as they began leaving. "Aren't you coming?" Yeji asked me as she turned back to look at me while I opened the bottle and took a huge gulp. "I'm joining you guys?" I asked surprised. I figured that I would stay back as my work was done. Well I did my best anyway. "Yes. In case of damage control." She said and she walked out assuming that I was already following her. Which I was. Damage control. I had a feeling they did that a lot when it came to him. But I didn't ask about this as I followed them into the hallway and down the hall to another room where two guards were posted. They opened the door for us and we got in, ending up at the podium of where the conference was being held. This conference from what I gathered was more like a press conference which was in line with the theme of the conference I was actually meant to attend. "Climate change and its impacts on the environment" was the headline. Kai was on a solo tour of his career while also doing a humanitarian gig for his company Eclipse Corp, a subsidiary of Galaxy Entertainment , the company him and his group were currently signed under. Galaxy Entertainment was headed by Park Sunwoo and after a quick Google search while in the hotel room, found out that Yeji was not only the daughter and heir of the company, but also currently the vice chairperson. Kai had started Eclipse a year ago, solely for the purpose of offering an alternative option for trainees who couldn't debut in the main company. Eclipse also mainly focused on acting than music. Apart from that, Kai had decided that they would take part in sustainable development projects in Asia and this entire press conference was like a debut of his company's project of sustainable development while promoting environmental friendly options. So far he had taken up putting a solar panel plant in Jeju island to offer alternative energy sources for the residents there. They had significant funding and thus their project was a success. They wanted to do this in more regions of south Korea and the whole purpose of the conference was to not only put them on the map but also to outsource more funding. And with him as the face of the company, it was bound to be a success. But now after meeting him personally I wondered how he had managed to convince the donors he had already. A hostess directed us to our designated seats, with Kai in the middle and Yeji sitting on his left side while I sat on his right side. C.M was left standing just next to the door we had used to come in. I was surprised by the number of journalists sitting in the large room. I counted approximately twenty journalists. In addition to the important guests that were seated on the first three rows. I placed my phone and notebook on the table in front of us as we waited to begin. "Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I trust that you are all well. Before we start, I'd like to thank all of you for taking a few minutes of your time to be here with us. We are very much honored and obliged to have you here with us. Now I trust that you all have been briefed on why we are here today. But I'll let Mr. Kim Minjun do the honors of introducing us and what exactly we are doing here. " Yeji said then signalled for Kai to take over. "Thank you Yeji. " Kai began after clearing his throat. He then went on to introduce the company and the project they had done. Then he went on about the projects they planned to undertake and what impacts that would have to the environment and their contribution at helping to curb climate change. So far all was well and once he was done the entire hall rang with applauses and impressed whispers around the room. Then they began asking questions. And I suddenly sat up as I watched anxiously as he answered all the questions well, surprising me at how well he did. Most of the questions asked were what we had gone over and to my surprise, it seemed he had actually been listening to me. I had finally relaxed and was confident that I had done my job well and I had no doubt that I had finally secured my job. Oh I couldn't wait to tell Ahlam, Nate and my family back home. That was until one reporter decided to ask a surprise question that basically shattered that fantasy into tiny glass pieces. "Rumors about your relationship with actress Sunny have sparked interest in the media. Do you have any comments in regards to this?" The male reporter asked. Oh s**t! I looked to the side and saw Kai's mask behind the polite smile slipping. I had seen the rumors. And it had sparked quite the debate amongst the wanted fan base both in Korea and internationally. Anyone that knew anything about K entertainment was that k netizens tended to be very overly protective of their idols. In fact dating was frowned upon. And the backlash was usually quite harsh on the idols and their partners. Pictures of Kai and a famous Korean actress called Sunny had flooded the internet a few days prior and no comments had been made from either of their representing companies leaving the people in wild speculations. The pictures were semi intimate and left people trying to piece the puzzle. From the reactions of both Yeji and Kai, this question caught them off guard and left them quiet as they tried to come up with the appropriate answers to this. And that's when my impulsive nature kicked in. Clearing my throat on the mic in front of me drawing attention to myself. Taking a deep breath mentally I looked at the crowd in front of me having gathered all the confidence I could while fighting my anxiety and responded. "Kai and Sunny are friends who happened to be having a casual meet up like you would with your friends. The photos which were illegally taken might I add, were taken with a malicious intent to tarnish both Miss sunny and Kai's images in the public eye. As a company we will be taking legal action against anyone peddling such rumors against Kai. I hope that answers your question Mr..." "Mr. Cha. From Dispatch." The reporter answered. Aaah he's a Korean reporter. "Mr. Cha. I hope this is satisfactory." I said with a polite smile. "Yes. And you are? " The reporter answered but still looked like he had more questions to ask. "This is Jasmine Sibuor. The PR and communications manager of Eclipse Corp. Now if we don't have any more questions, I'd like to release you so you can be able to attend the main event. Thank you for your time once again. " Yeji said with a polite smile on her face and we all stood up. With a respectful bow from both Yeji and Kai, we left the main stage and went towards the door we had used to come in which also acted as our exit. "You handled it like a pro." Yeji complimented me with a proud smile once we were in the hallway and I nearly blushed as my heart filled with pride and confidence. "Thank you. Just doing my job." I said with a smile back at her as we walked side by side. C.M and Kai were ahead of us and I nearly rolled my eyes at his arrogance for not even bothering to thank me. Well your welcome I said to myself as I stared at his perfect back. "Let's go back to the room so we can finalize everything. Congratulations on joining our team officially. I look forward to a fruitful partnership." She said. "Same here." I said. I did it. I finally landed a good job. And I had a feeling it paid well too. I just hope that I have enough patience to handle the arrogant ass without snapping.
