The news came unexpectedly.
“I got the job.”
Lena froze for a second, then broke into a smile. “Adrian, that’s amazing!”
He looked happy—excited, even—but there was something else beneath it. Something hesitant.
“What is it?” she asked gently.
“It’s in another city.”
The words lingered between them.
Lena’s smile faltered slightly, but she quickly recovered. “That’s okay,” she said. “We’ll figure it out.”
Adrian studied her face. “You’re sure?”
“Of course,” she nodded. “This is a good thing. I’m proud of you.”
And she was.
But later that night, when she was alone, the reality began to settle in.
Distance.
It wasn’t something she had planned for. It wasn’t something she wanted. But love meant supporting each other, even when it wasn’t easy.
“We’ll make it work,” Adrian said during one of their late-night calls.
“We will,” Lena agreed.
They talked about schedules, visits, calls—ways to stay connected despite the distance. They made promises to communicate, to stay honest, to not let anything come between them.
“I don’t want this to change us,” Lena admitted.
“It won’t,” Adrian reassured her. “If anything, it’ll make us stronger.”
She held onto those words.
Because she needed to believe them.
