Little mouse

~JADE~ My heart dropped as soon as I heard Damon’s voice behind me. Fuck, he couldn't find out about them! Three years ago after he had forced me to marry him, I had been pregnant. If he had known, they would have been killed so I hid my pregnancy bump. Luckily at that time, Damon travelled a lot and by the time the twins were ready to come out, I was alone. I had given birth to them in the woods and had to bite down on my hand to stop myself from screaming. I closed my eyes at the thought of how painful my silent birth had been. It had been one of the most excruciating pains in my life. After giving birth to them, while still dripping in blood, I had handed them to my mother over the fence and had made her promise to hide them and each year, I got a chance to sneak out to visit them. Damon never found out and I wanted it to stay that way. “I asked you a question…” “Is that the question you should be asking me? Can't you see what your mother did to me?!” I screamed as I turned to him, deliberately sliding the phone under the bed. Guilt flashed in his eyes as he walked up to me. “If you weren't so stubborn, Jade…” I scoffed at his words. “I'm so stubborn? You didn't know that when you forced me into marrying you?” His face immediately darkened from my words. “We promised never to speak about that…” “And you promised to treat me right but look at me!” I screamed. His face softened as he reached out to grab me. “Okay, I'm sorry. I'll speak to my mother and she would…” “I don't want to be your wife anymore. Let me go” I stated and he froze for a second before his eyes met mine. “Excuse me?” He questioned with a low tone and I raised my chin despite my vision slowly getting blurry. “You already have Zara, you don't need me here anymore…” “For f**k sake, Jade! I don't want Zara, I want you…” “You got her pregnant. How is that you wanting me?” I yelled. “She's my mate, Jade. I can't exactly ignore her and I need an heir…” “So be with her and let me go” I muttered and a stormy look appeared in his eyes. “Is this because of that bastard again? You want to go back to Ryker, don't you?” He questioned and my heart hammered against my ribcage at the slight mention of that man. His face flashed through my head for a brief second before I shook it away. Now was not the time to think of him. “This isn't about him…” “Isn't it? Was he the one you were talking to earlier, huh?” He questioned as he tried to reach behind me. “This isn't about anyone else but us!” I screamed and he halted. “The day you brought me here, you promised me loyalty and happiness. When was the last time you saw me smile?” He stared at me for a while then let out a sigh. “I already told you, Zara means nothing to me. Yes, I made a mistake by sleeping with her but I need Heirs, Jade and you can't give me that” He muttered and relief slowly washed over me. Because of how brutal giving birth to the twins were, I wasn't able to conceive after that. I wasn't sure if I should be sad or grateful for that. He grabbed onto my face gently, caressing my cheek with his thumb. “I love you, I'm always going to love you” He whispered and I turned my head to the side before he could kiss me. “You don't love me” I muttered. I had experienced love before and this was definitely not it. He just stared at me for a while before he reached down and carried me in his arms. “I'll tend to your wounds” He announced and I was way too tired to fight. I knew he was panicking because I said I was going to leave so he was acting extra loving but that wasn't going to change my mind. He was supposed to leave for an Alpha meeting tonight and that was when I was going to escape. He placed me down on my feet and slowly undressed me. Through the mirror, I could see the healing bruises and scars on my body. “If Zara is the problem then I'll move her to the guest house and I'll make sure my mother doesn't bully you anymore. Is that okay?” He asked and I closed my eyes. The same promises, the same damn excuses. “I'm tired, Damon. I need to rest” I murmured and he grabbed onto my waist as he placed kisses on my shoulder. “I want you right now, Jade. It's been so long since I last touched you” He whispered. That's because he moved into Zara's room and totally abandoned me. “Damon…” Before I could complete my sentence, a loud knock sounded at the door. “Alpha Damon, there is an emergency!” The voice said with panic and I furrowed my eyebrows. “What is it? I'm busy…” “We are under attack!” The words barely left the guard's mouth before a deafening explosion shook the entire pack. The window rattled and I stumbled backwards as Damon’s expression changed instantly. “What the hell?” He muttered as another explosion sounded from outside then followed by screams. “They have breached the eastern border and are quickly approaching the pack house” The guard said with a frantic tone. “Who dares to attack my pack?” Damon roared and as if to respond, a terrifying chorus of howls suddenly rose from outside. Damon rushed to the window and I followed him despite the pain shooting through my body. The eastern gates had been torn apart by wolves as they ran towards the pack house, tearing into anyone who stood in their way. The ones stalking through the chaos in human form were way more terrifying. What the… “f**k. Stay in here, Jade. I mean it” Damon ordered before rushing out of the room and immediately, another explosion went off and the lights went out. Darkness swallowed the entire room and I realized this might be my only chance to escape. With everything going on, Damon wouldn't notice I was gone. Without wasting another minute, I rushed towards my closet and packed as lightly as I could before throwing on an outfit. I could hear screams from the outside and the sound of people's bones being crushed. Whoever was attacking us came with a goal which was total bloodshed. I carried my luggage and ran into the cupboards only to duck at the sound of a loud bang behind me. Maids and guards were running around as I ran through the crowd and towards the back exit. My body was still weak and most of my injuries hadn't healed but I was going to make it. I was going to escape this. “I need you now, Ayla,” I muttered to my wolf. I haven't heard from her in three years nor have I been able to transform. If it weren't for the fact that I could feel her, I'd believe I was wolfless. I dashed through the countless dead bodies, keeping my head low as I ran towards the borders without turning back. Whoever these people were, they weren't here to negotiate but to utterly destroy. I thought I heard Damon call out my name but I didn't dare turn back. I was almost there, the border was just within my reach. I could…. Just then, my wrist was suddenly grabbed from behind before a knife was pressed against my throat. “Dare say a word or move and I'll blow your brains out” A thick male voice rang out and I went cold with fear. “I'll take this one back to Alpha so he can handle her for trying to run away” He announced to the other warriors who were busy toying with the dead bodies on the ground. “Move” He ordered and I did as was told while trying to stop my hands from shaking as I stared at all the dead bodies. They had killed almost everyone! I closed my eyes as I said a little prayer to the moon goddess for them. Even if they never treated me right, no one deserved such a brutal death. We reached the center of the compound and my breath hitched when I found Damon, Elena and Zara on their knees with their heads lowered. Damon was one of the strongest Alpha in the land and he was made to kneel? Alpha, this one was trying to run away and I caught her” The warrior announced and something in me jolted instantly as my wolf let out a loud howl. My blood ran cold as I slowly lifted my gaze and a man stood several feet away with his back towards me. He was tall, broad shouldered and terrifyingly still despite the chaos surrounding him. Dark hair fell messily across the back of his neck and there was something terrifyingly familiar about him. My heart began to race as he slowly turned his head towards me and the minute my eyes met his cold gray eyes, my heart stopped. No… It couldn't be… Ryker! Something dark flashed in his eyes as he slowly approached me. The only thing I could hear was the frantic beating of my heart. He stopped directly in front of me then the corner of his lips lifted coldly into a humourless smile. “If it isn't my runaway mate. I won't say it's nice to see you again, little mouse”...
