I closed the car door and walked to where they stood. Katie was standing at the corner smiling sheepishly. My surprised face wasn’t hard to miss.
“What?” I asked again. “Are you? I didn’t know you….. Wha…what?” I sputtered, unable to form a coherent statement.
“Yes, they’re dating and in loveee.” Katie finally said what I was trying to convey.
“Wow!” I muttered in disbelief while Angela and Sarah stared at me with wide smiles. “Why didn’t anybody tell me about it?” I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself.
I never thought of Sarah as gay. Even if she didn’t talk about boys or having crushes on them, I thought she just felt she wasn’t old enough to do so or something.
