CHAPTER TWENTY Ivy didn’t think anything of Dax being a few minutes late. She didn’t even think anything of him being an hour late. Movement upstairs along with the rumble of voices gave her a clue. Getting rid of lingering party guests wasn’t always easy. It wouldn’t be much longer. Turned out she couldn’t be more wrong. Hour upon hour went by. Night came. The voices stopped, movement ceased, and all she could do was wait. The last car she’d heard was half a day ago. Was anyone still there? Was she completely alone? Pacing was a useless waste of energy she might need later. Without food or water, there was no way to replace stores. Conserving it, she remained static. Dax couldn’t have forgotten her. Wouldn’t have. Except he’d stated if it came down to a choice, he wouldn’t choose her
