CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
By the time breakfast rolled around, Dax was amped and more than ready to have the conversation. He was going to get his girl today, no two ways about it. He couldn’t leave her locked up anymore. She trusted him, he couldn’t let her down, he wouldn’t. Watching her get married to Trystan would tear him apart. For his own reasons and the pain it would cause her.
Feeling resentment toward Mauri was new. He didn’t like the way it built up inside. Seeing his girl hadn’t eased the torment. All it did was remind him of what she’d been through and his role in her ordeal.
“What’s eating you?” Mauri beamed over the breakfast table. “You’ve done an excellent job.”
“I have?” he asked, his mind elsewhere.
Obviously, Ivy made a good impression.
