Midnight Run
Everlee
I gasp as Lennox leans forward and kisses my forehead. The sparks from his hand holding mine are nothing compared to his lips on my skin. He is talking but I hear nothing he says. I am still focused on the tingles he left on my forehead. Somehow they go right through me and I’m feeling sparks in other places as well.
“Sleep well, beautiful. Happy Birthday.”
Happy birthday indeed!
I think, as I watch him walk away. Every fiber of my being wants to beg him to stay and teach me about our mate bond right now. I can’t explain it, but I feel a bit sad as he disappears down the stairs. I can’t wait until breakfast tomorrow morning. I reluctantly slip into the room alone and decide to look around. I think he said something about clothes for me in the closet. I walk into the massive bathroom and see a huge claw foot tub, and decide to run a bath. I climb in the hot water and close my eyes as I feel the tension from the day release from my body. My mind can’t calm though.
“Is that giant hunk of man really all mine? How would things be for a fairy as a werewolf’s mate? Would the other wolves accept me? He said something about me being his Luna, what is that?”
I take a deep breath, he promised to explain everything tomorrow. I sit in the tub until the water goes cold. I get out and wrap in the fluffy black towel waiting for me on the hook next to the tub. I walk through the bedroom into the huge closet and find a drawer with brand new clothes all in my size. I can’t even fathom how he knew my bra size without asking. I grab some underwear and towel dry my hair. I crawl into the bed and snuggle into the soft down comforter and fall asleep fast.
Lennox
Zeke is waiting at the bottom of the stairs.
“Good night, I presume?”
He asks with a sarcastic tone.
Zeke and I grew up together in the pack house. We were raised like brothers, because our parents knew we would need to be close in order to be a strong Alpha and Beta.
“I found my mate today. She’s here.”
I can’t wipe the smile off my face. Zeke’s face lights up.
“You found our Luna?! She is here?! Has she accepted you? Who is she?”
He barely stops to take a breath. I laugh and shake my head.
“I found her, she is here, she has not accepted or rejected me, she doesn’t know much about the mate bond at all, her name is Everlee and she is a fairy.”
With that I walk out the back door and shift. I let Drake take control and he runs straight for the woods. Zeke finally snaps out of his shocked state and joins me, letting his wolf Ajax out. Our wolves run to the pond on the other side of the woods behind the pack house.
An Alpha finding his Luna is a big deal. I’ve been waiting since I turned 17 to find my mate. I took over the pack when I turned 20, my parents were ready for retirement and Zeke’s parents agreed. They were confident Zeke and I could handle running the pack, even without either of us having our mates yet. For the last 5 years, we have worked hard and earned the respect of our pack and the elders.
But now that I found my Luna, I will finally be complete. I will come into my full power as alpha as soon as I mark Everlee and we will be the great pack leaders Black River deserves.
Our wolves finish their run and lay down in the moonlight, next to the pond.
Zeke
“A fairy? How is that possible? They were wiped out. No one has seen a fairy in hundreds of years! Wait, is she that old?”
Lennox
“I know. I was shocked too. She says she is 21. I had to ask her what she was because I’ve never smelled a fairy. She is beautiful Zeke. I can’t believe I finally found her! The Moon Goddess outdid herself. “
Zeke
“Of course the Moon Goddess blessed you! You deserve this! You have been a great alpha for 5 years without a Luna. Imagine how great you will be with a Luna, a Fae Luna?! I can’t wait to meet her! I’m sure she is amazing if the Moon Goddess sees her as worthy to be your Luna.”
Lennox
“Thanks Zeke. She is actually staying in the room next to yours. I couldn’t risk her being too close to my room. Everything they taught us about the mate bond is true, and her scent is intoxicating. It was hard to control myself. But she needs time and information before we mate. I can’t mess this up. That’s why I had to let Drake out for a run.”
Zeke
“Well, in that case we better get back. We’ve been gone for about an hour. Best not to leave the Luna alone too long.”
We both take off without another word. Seeing how loyal Zeke already is, hearing him call her Luna, makes my heart swell. Zeke is the best Beta I could have asked for, and the best friend. He is long overdue to meet his mate. He deserves someone amazing. When we reach the pack house I shift and go to the basket on the patio were we keep spare shorts.
“Have breakfast with us in the morning. After that I’ll be leaving you in charge for a few days. I’m going to take her to the cabin if she’ll go. I need to take her somewhere we can be alone and I can answer all of her questions and she can fill me in on her life. And how fairies have managed to stay unseen for almost 500 years.”
The cabin will give her time to think without being overwhelmed by pack members and give us enough alone time to get to know each other and hopefully mate. Zeke nods and goes to his room. It takes all of the self control I have to walk past the Beta floor and up to my room. I take a shower and get into bed, knowing sleep won’t come easy ever again, until my Luna is in my bed bedside me.
