Chapter 1 – Prologue
The moon was wonderfully clear that first night. It was perfect weather for viewing with no clouds in sight. I was fortunate to see the beginning of it all. This is Colin Rogers recording this. I’m an English freelance journalist and amateur astronomer, still in my late twenties but only just. This account summarizes the diary I kept at the time about those remarkable events and of my part in them.
I’m sure several other amateur observers were watching the moon that evening, too, but nobody professional apparently. However, one of the tabloid newspapers did feature the story a few days later.
