Chapter 1 – Invasion
Terry James finished warming the ice off his beard and sat down for a well-needed rest. His wife Ruby regarded him in silence. He took her outstretched hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. 'So, you’ve heard nothing more since last week? Let me try it.'
He reached over and turned the knob on the old radio, trying hard to catch any word from the outside. The solar power in the cabin’s batteries, produced by cells on the roof, was just sufficient enough to simultaneously operate the radio and the microwave oven, but not much else.
