  ALEX THORNE   The manor was too quiet as I walked in. I was just five steps in and one of the guard called for me.   "Mr. Thorne."   I turned, brows raised. They don't usually disturb me , especially not when they know how tired I am.   He hesitated, clearly unsure if he should speak. "This afternoon… Miss Lila Rae visited. Mrs. Thorne let her in."   The words hit me like a slap.   My jaw clenched. Lila was a bad news since the beginning and I don't understand how Madison willing let her in. I turned on my heel and stormed down the corridor.   I threw her door open.   She was sitting on the edge of the bed in an oversized sweatshirt, a book in her lap. Her head snapped up, startled. She looked too calm — too comfortable — for someone who had invited the enemy into our home.   "
