Chapter 11 — Selene: The Prison of Shadows

312 Words
Selene had long ago stopped counting the days. The dark stone walls of the Coven’s fortress were her only companions, the shadows her only friends. They whispered her name sometimes—Selene, Selene—but never offered comfort, only reminders that she was trapped. She had been changed. The Coven fed her magic, twisted it, binding her will to their dark designs. Yet beneath it all, a spark remained—her heart, her soul, the part that longed for her sister. Tonight, the visions came again. A pulse of familiar energy tugged at her. Warm, insistent. It carried her name. Elyria… Elyria… Her chest ached, both from longing and from anger. They found her. My twin is out there. She’s alive. Selene rose from her cold bed of stone. Her hands trembled slightly, but her magic flared in the air, coiling like liquid silver. Shadows responded, bending and twisting around her fingers. She could feel the Coven’s presence nearby—watching, waiting—but she no longer cared. “She’s coming,” Selene whispered. “I will meet her… before they do.” Outside the fortress, lightning split the sky, and for a moment, Selene allowed herself to imagine her sister’s face, her laugh, the small smile that mirrored her own. The thought gave her strength. If Elyria survived the journey through the Ancient Vale, the Hollow, and the hunters… then they might still have a chance to face the Coven together. Selene clenched her fists. The shadows in the room writhed and thickened, coalescing into faint humanoid forms. She didn’t need to speak; the shadows understood. “They will not touch her,” Selene said, voice cold as steel. “Not while I am here.” And for the first time in years, she allowed herself a smile. Soon, she thought. We will be together. And then… we will be free.
