Liora's POV
I don't remember walking home, I just know I saw my grandmother's hand on my back the whole way and her trying to say something twice.
I just kept cutting her off because I couldn't hear anything right now.
"Lili, let me at least..." She started
"I need to be alone, Grandma," I said, already pushing past her into the house,
"Please."
She didn't argue and just watched me go. I shut my door and turned the lock as I slid down against it until I hit the floor.
Then the tears started pouring out from my eyes.
It got so much that I didn't even know when I started laughing too, both at once, because I was pregnant.
After three years of trying and failing and being called barren behind my back, even sometimes to my face, I was finally carrying his child.
"This could still fix it" I thought.
Maybe if he sees the report, he might have a change of heart. You know how people say babies make people get emotional and all that.
I wiped my face and grabbed my coat before I could talk myself out of it.
I didn't even remember to pick the healer's paper from my grandma's room.
It was getting late so I had to run and when I realized I was still on my heels the whole time, I threw it off and started running towards the Alpha's main estate.
Only for me to get to the gates and the guards did not let me in. There were men I'd known for three years, the same ones who listened to everything I had to say.
"Miss Ashwood," one of them said, instead of the "Luna" they used to call me,
"You can't come through."
"It's me," I said,
"I just need two minutes with Alexander, please."
The other guard wouldn't even look at me.
"Alpha Alexander ordered that no one is to let you enter Vale Manor again." He said frankly
I didn't argue, and definitely not because I gave up, but because I knew where else to take.
I turned and walked the long way around toward the back garden as I still knew this manor better than most of the people living in it, so I slipped through without a single guard noticing.
I immediately walked to his study which is where he usually is at night. I heard someone laughing gently before I even got there and that seemed like Vivianne's voice.
"I should go back" I whispered silently, my chest tightening, but I didn't turn back.
I moved closer and pushed the door open just enough to see who was inside.
Alexander had Vivienne pressed against his desk and he was kissing her, with both his hands in her hair like he was starved of kisses, she was also laughing into his mouth between kisses.
I couldn't even make a single sound because the last thing I wanted to happen was him seeing me there.
The report slipped out of my fingers and hit the floor. It made a sound but they were too carried out in their making-out session that they didn't notice.
I bent down fast, snatched it back up before either of them turned around, and walked out the way I came without breathing properly until I was outside again.
A man in a grey suit was already waiting for me by the front steps, and I recognized the Vale family lawyer before he even opened his mouth. I immediately regretted coming around because I don't even want to see anyone related to that family
"Miss Ashwood," he said, holding out a folder,
"The papers are ready for your signature."
Marcus, Alexander's father and the former Alpha also stood a few feet behind him in his wheelchair with his assistant right by his side and he didn't look at me once,
"Sign them. It's what's best for everyone." I heard him say
I took the pen from the lawyer's hand and signed every page without reading a single line.
Outside on the road I stopped and pressed my hand flat over my stomach.
For one second I almost turned back around, almost ran in and told him everything, screamed if I had to, but I didn't.
"You don't need someone who never chose us," I whispered instead, and I kept the report hidden deep inside my bag.
*******
I couldn't even sleep a wink that night. I was just turning from one end of the bed to the other for hours and just as I was starting to drift to sleep, someone slammed against my door so hard.
Bang, bang, bang.
"Liora, wake up!" It was my grandmother's voice, whispering in urgency
"Pack only what you can carry, we have to leave now."
I sat up fast, heart already racing.
"Grandma, what's going on?" I said as I went to open the door for her.
"There's no time to explain everything," she said, already pulling clothes out of my drawer with shaking hands,
"Someone inside the pack warned me, men are coming, I don't know if they're coming to arrest you or silence you or even worse, and I am not staying to find out which." She added quickly
"I haven't done anything wrong," I said, still frozen, still not understanding.
She grabbed my shoulders hard,
This isn't about what you've done. It's about the baby you're carrying. The healer probably informed the pack about politics..."
My grandma, Eleanor, packed my bag well and gave it to me.
"Get going now!" She said as we ran off through the back door.
We kept running through the back forest paths she'd shown me as a child, my bag banging against my hip, and by the time we reached the harbor, the last ferry was already pulling away from the dock.
"Wait!" My grandma, Eleanor screamed, sprinting harder than I'd ever seen her move,
"Please, wait for us!"
A crewman shouted that boarding had already closed, and I ran even faster.
I got closer and realised that the gap between the dock and the boat had widened and now looked impossible.
Before I knew it, a hand stretched forth, grabbed mine and pulled me across.
Everything after that blurred, and my head was now very heavy.
The last thing I registered before the world went black was strong arms catching me before I hit the deck, and above me, I saw in a blur the shape of a man looking down at my face.
"Are you okay?" I heard his thick voice silently in my head before passing out.
