POV: Isadora
I tried to go back to sleep after he left, but the rest of my night was gone. My mind was racing. I’d actually slept with him. And now he wanted to have lunch. My God, what was this turning into? What even were we now?
Memories of last night flashed through my mind, and I immediately felt butterflies in my stomach. It had been incredible, I didn't even know it was possible to feel that much pleasure, to lose control like that.
I didn’t want to stop. Dammit! But what was I going to do? If he was going to be coming by Anne’s apartment all the time, I’d have to move in here. And more importantly, I had to figure out a solution for my hair. I got lucky yesterday, but I couldn't count on that every time.
I got out of bed and started pacing the room, lost in thought. A wig would be a practical fix; I could pop it on and off in minutes. But considering the night we just had, that wig would fly right off the second we started making out. I really needed to dye it, but that wasn't practical at all.
“Crap!”, I sat back down on the bed, frustrated. “Would he recognize me if I showed up blonde but with blue eyes? What am I even saying, of course he’d recognize me! It’s already risky enough the way I am now.”
“I need ideas! And fast!”
And then it hit me. Yeah, a wig for Anne was a no-go, but a wig for Isadora...
I jumped up and grabbed my phone. I checked the time, 6:30 AM. Nothing would be open yet. Regardless, I got dressed and went out to find a shop that sold human hair wigs.
I pulled up in front of a massive store and waited for them to open. The second they did, I rushed in and asked for a dark blonde wig. I even showed the clerk a photo of my natural hair so she could see the exact shade I wanted.
Luckily, they had a ton of blonde options, and one model in particular was a near-perfect match. I bought three, just to be safe.
Leaving the shop, I texted my stylist.
“Please have an opening, please have an opening!”, I prayed as I typed.
Victor: [Of course, sweetie]
Victor: [I always have a spot for you]
Victor: [Can you make it at 10:00 AM?]
10:00 AM? I checked the time; it was already 8:40 AM. Oh, screw it, I’d already missed my morning class anyway. I confirmed and waited.
At 10:00 AM sharp, I walked into Victor’s salon.
“Isadora! My God! I almost didn’t recognize you with that dark hair.”, Victor said. “Is that why you’re here?”
“Yeah, I used temporary dye, but I loved the color so much I decided to make it permanent.”, I beamed at him.
“Hmm.”, he analyzed my hair. “Well, I won’t lie, you know I love your natural blonde, but this dark shade really gives you such a... mysterious vibe.”, he smiled.
“You like it?”, I grinned.
“Yes, yes. It looks good; we can do it. I’ll go prep the dye. Have a seat and I’ll call you over in a bit.”
Victor pointed toward the sofa, and as soon as I looked over, I saw Carol. She was sitting there with freshly done nails. She was staring back at me, probably wondering why my hair was that color.
I walked over and sat down next to her. She didn't say a word, just went back to her phone. An awkward silence settled between us. I wanted to talk to her, but I didn't know what to say or where to start... so much had happened since we drifted apart.
Then, she got a text, stood up, and headed for the exit. As she opened the door, I stood up too.
“I broke up with him!”, I said loudly, catching the attention of everyone in the salon.
Yeah, I hadn’t really thought before acting. Before I knew it, I was shouting and drawing stares. I gave the other customers an embarrassed smile and then looked back at Carol. She was staring at me, so I walked closer.
“I broke up with Ryan.”, I repeated. She crossed her arms, skeptical.
“Why? Did your mom find you a better match?”
“No! I broke up with him because I wanted to! Look... I’m sorry. I said some really shitty things to you that day, and you were right... I was being a coward.”
She sighed and looked at her phone screen.
“Dylan is waiting for me, I have to go.”, I nodded, feeling a bit defeated. I really had lost my best friend.
“Are you... free to hang out today?”, she asked. I looked at her, surprised.
“Maybe after my class?”
“Sure. Your number is still the same, right?”, I nodded. “Okay, I’ll text you.”, she smiled. “I’m curious to hear how you dumped that loser.”, I laughed. It was good to have Carol back.
As soon as she left, Victor called me over to start my final transformation. From here on out, I would be Anne, and I’d be "disguised" as Isadora.
“So, what do you think?”, Victor asked once he finished the blowout.
The color was slightly darker, which was normal. But the shine was incredible; Victor always managed to make my hair look amazing.
“It’s perfect!”, I told him. I checked the time on my phone, it was after 11:00 AM. I had to get back to the apartment; Henry would be there soon.
I said goodbye to Victor and rushed home.
When Henry finally arrived, he nearly gave me a heart attack by asking what I’d done differently to my hair. But I managed to talk my way out of it, and the result? He left me weak in the knees again. I loved seeing him like that, so hungry for me.
He was reluctant to say goodbye, wanting to stay longer. One hour really wasn't enough. Too bad he didn't know he’d be seeing me again in just a few minutes.
I had to get ready in a rush after he left. I put on the blonde wig, took out my contacts, and changed my clothes. I sped all the way there so I wouldn't be late and hurried into the classroom, head down, still terrified he might recognize me.
I sat next to Brenda, trying to stay as far away from Ryan as possible. He was still trying to make me jealous using Raven. The moment I walked in, he threw his arm over her shoulder and started whispering right in her ear.
I ignored him and kept my eyes on Henry. I hated the course material, but I loved watching him teach. It made him even more attractive.
I can’t tell if it was because I wasn't giving Ryan the time of day, but at some point, he just started talking louder, laughing and flirting with Raven at a volume the whole room could hear.
And considering we were in Henry’s class, that was never going to end well. And it didn't. Henry shut him down hard, and of course, I loved it, especially the part where he mentioned he was in a good mood that afternoon.
After class, I met up with Carol at a coffee shop near campus.
“So, you changed your mind about dyeing your hair.”, she said as soon as we placed our orders.
“No, I did dye it.”, she gave me a confused look. “This is a wig.”, she kept staring, even more confused now.
There was a reason I wanted her friendship back more than ever. I needed to tell someone everything, and Carol was the only person I trusted enough. I just had to get it out.
“You wanted to know why I broke up with Ryan.”, she nodded. “Well, long story short... I dumped him because I’m seeing my professor.”
