Chapter 10

152 Words
We sat in the backyard after our Friday night game the following week. I hadn’t talked to or seen Molly for over a week. She wasn’t at our games, and neither Jeannie nor Larry had mentioned anything to me. As much as I wanted to see her, I was determined to keep my resolve and not get hurt again. I had lost count of how many times I’d heard, “Can’t we be just friends!” My train of thought was broken when Mike stood up and said too loudly, “I’ve got something to say.” It wasn’t like Mike, bringing attention to himself, so we all turned silently and listened. He smiled a little sheepishly but with a twinkle in his eye and announced: “In two weeks, Joyce and I are getting married!” So we celebrated our victory on the ball field and their engagement in the backyard.
