Chapter 27

1545 Words

As luck would have it, I had to park four houses down from Jeannie’s house. I didn’t mind. It was a beautiful sunny day, with not a cloud anywhere. I stopped to look at the spot under the tree where we first sat and told each other how we felt. I almost heard the Satins singing “In the Still of the Night.” I had to stop and catch my breath. I didn’t want to go there with tears and feeling all choked up. Ringing the doorbell, I could feel the sweat running down from my armpits and forming on my brow. I was so happy that it was Mrs. Goodman who opened the door. “Hi, Jesse,” she smiled, stepping back. “Hi, Mrs. G.,” I replied. “How are you?” “I’m fine,” she answered. “Come in.” “If it’s all right, I’d like to talk with Molly if I could.” “Of course,” she replied. “I’ll just go get her.”
