The helicopter hovered in the air but it was very close to the ground. The sound was so loud and the huge blades gathered dust and leaves circling them towards the sky above the mansion.
Aria cleaned her tears. It wa hopeless, there was nothing she could do. There was a knock on the door. She stood up and walked slowly towards it. She opened it and saw Thane standing with his hands clasped together. His face held that of worry.
“Can I come in?” He whispered
Aria moved aside and Thane walked in
“I tried to stop them Ari . Please believe me”
“I know” Aria smiled faintly
“Thank you for always looking out for me”
“If you need anything don’t hesitate to call me” Thane said as he placed his hands on her shoulder.
“Thane stop treating me like your younger sister” Aria slapped his hands playfully.
“I will come visit when I have the chance and if he hurts you let me know”
Aria genuinely laughed this time.
“ do you know who you are up against? Don’t worry I’ll be okay. I’m ready, let’s go”
They both walked side to the base of the stairs, her heart beating loudly on her chest. There, she met her father and Ravenna standing closely. Her father seemed anxious and he avoided eye contact with her.
Ravenna walked to where she was and held her. Her strong grip tightened around her wrist.
“Stand straight,” Ravenna jeered into her ear. “You will not embarrass us in front of him.”
“You’re hurting me” Aria’s wrist ached.
“Mum” Thane looked at his mum disapprovingly.
Ravenna ignored Thane and leaned closer to Aria.
“This is just the beginning of the pain you will feel for the rest of your life. He will only use you and dump you when he’s tired. I heard he’s very dangerous.”
Gillard stood a few feet away, his hands were behind his back. He hadn’t look at Aria since she came downstairs. He heard all his wife said but did not intervene.
Something shifted,Aria felt strength from nowhere. She forcefully pulled her hand away from Ravenna’s.
“We’ll see about that”.
She looked straight ahead she didn’t even look to her left to see Ravenna’s mortified expression.
Then, the front doors opened. The strong wind rushed in. Men in back stepped inside. They were tall, broad, and wore dark shades. She knew that these were no ordinary men. Their movements were swift and precise.
Another man stepped in. He was dashing, tall and silver haired. He was Kairos Thompson, the legendary right hand man of Zayne Wilder. Seeing him up close, fear crept into Aria slowly. This man was closest to Zayne more than any human. “Miss Aria Flynn.” He said looking straight at Aria. When he spoke, his deep voice sent chills to her spine.
“Sir welcome to our home” Gillard stepped forward it looked like he was shaking like a leaf.
“My….my… name is Gi…Gi..”
“I wasn’t talking to you” Kairos Thompson sharply interrupted
Aria flinched at the sound of her name.
Ravenna pushed her forward timidly . “She’s here.”
He looked at Aria and sent a signal to the body guards. Two of them moved towards her and They escorted her outside.
The helicopter had descended, with its wheels touching the ground. Then the door opened
A man stepped out and the world, somehow slowed down and the only thing she saw was the man walking towards her.
The Zayne Wilder, the who could shake the entire economy with a single word.
He was taller than she expected, well over six feet, broad shoulders stretching in the dark coat he wore. He moved with effortless authority. His silky hair was jet black, styled neatly but was disheveled by the wind. That even made him more striking. He had piercing grey eyes. His face was sharp in a way that felt like he was a living and breathing anime character —high cheekbones, a natural carved jawline an elegant straight nose. He looked even better than his pictures.
Aria suddenly didn’t know how to breathe. His eyes stole the breath from her lungs. They were narrow and commanding. He finally got to where she stood. She kept her head low and avoided eye contact. He stood so close to her. He smelt of cinnamon.
She managed to look at the man who stood in front of her. His eyes looked straight into hers as if he was staring at her soul. He looked uninterested and he didn’t smile.
“ this…this is my dau…dau..ghter” Gillard Flynn stammered. He appeared so timid and his hands were sweaty, even in the winter.
Zayne slowly shifted his eyes from Aria to Gillard.
Gillard bowed his head so much that it almost touched the ground. Aria looked at her side where Thane stood and his head was bowed too. Ravenna stood close to Gillard looking so terrified that it looked like she could run away any minute.
He spoke quietly to one of his men, his deep baritone smooth and completely unaffected by the chaos around him.
Zayne’s gaze moved back to Aria. This time as if he was scanning her. He noticed how tensed she was and the faint bruises on her wrist and her swollen eyes.
“Interesting” that was all he said. Then he sent a signal to the body guards that stood with Aria and made his way back to the helicopter. one of the bodyguards made a gesture that She should follow Zayne to the helicopter. It seemed that it was only the both of them that will ride in the helicopter.
Aria felt heavy as she moved her feet one after the other following Zayne’s footsteps.
Aria looked back once.
Her father had already turned away. Thane waved and Ravenna had already disappeared from sight.
The helicopter rose slowly but it was soon in the air.
Aria watched the ground shrink until the Flynn mansion looked like nothing but a small toy house. She quickly looked away. She was scared of heights. She held the end of her T shirt nervously and squeezed it tightly.
Zayne wilder sat across from her. He had not lift his head once to look at her. He was busy on his tablet.
He sat with long legs stretched slightly, one arm on the armrest and the other held a pen which he used on the tablet. His wrist were adorned with a Patek Philippe wrist watch which cost millions of dollars. His coat was open now revealing a dark shirt underneath, the collar undone showing his porcelain-like skin. He would shake the modeling industry if he ever decided to be a model.
Now, she understood why he was the most eligible bachelor in the country and beyond.
She quickly looked away.
Minutes passed.
The only sounds were the sounds from the helicopter and his pen as it tapped the tablet softly.
Aria held her wrist slowly rotating it to ease the pain inflicted by Ravenna.
Zayne finally looked up but Aria was focused on her wrist and she tried to soothe the pain.
“You’re injured,” he said curtly
Aria paused her movements and slowly looked up to see him scanning her intensely. Aria nearly jumped out of fear.
“How badly?”
“It’s nothing”
That earned her a longer look.
“Who did that?” he deadpanned
Her heart started beating loudly . “It doesn’t really matter” she said carefully.
“Whatever floats your boat” He replied bluntly with an aloof expression.
Her heart shattered she didn’t expect to be shunned like that.
She turned to the window and took deep breaths. This man was clearly uninterested in her, maybe if she tried to convince him, he would send her back.
“Mr Wilder” she said tentatively
“What?” He still focused on his tablet clearly sounding irritated.
“Can you let me go?”
Zayne paused then looked up at her. He seemed to be caught off guard. This timid girl seemed interesting.
His eyes full with intrigue
“Why?” He asked his held tilted quizzically
“I don’t like you” she replied nervously.
Zayne looked at her in disbelief at first before he let out a low chuckle. This girl is indeed full of surprises.
“ tsk that is not negotiable” he replied
“But-“
“No buts”
She frowned as she laid back on her seat and looked out of the window. She was determined to run away from this man.
He continued working on his tablet. Then, slowly his gaze met the young woman who sat in front of him.
While Aria stared out the window, planning her escape, his eyes remained on her unhurried. It was as if he already knew and he was waiting for her to try.
