CHAPTER 2: INTO THE LION'S DEN

1002 Words
Naya's POV “Are you sure you want to go back to the club?” My best friend, Cassie asked, and I tried not to react as I looked at myself one more time in the mirror. My black dress ended mid thigh, and feet were clad in black ankle strap heels. I hadn't slept, and the letter was still on my table, haunting me like a ghost. “Yes,” I answered stiffly. I didn't need her telling me about what happened the last time I was there. I was going there for Zade Morretti. I had managed to get some information from my dad's informants. And all they could tell me, was that he was some kind of mafia lord that went to Club Kolrehs on Fridays. Which was where I was headed. The last time I was there, I left in handcuffs. “I just don't want you to get in trouble,” she muttered. “I just want to have some fun. If you're up for it, then we can leave.” I said, plastering a fake smile on my lips. I was using Cassie, but I was sure that she wouldn't mind. Especially if she knew it was for my dad. I mean, she had a crush on the man and wished she could steal him from my mom. Please, don't ask me about her life choices. If Zade knew something about my father's death, I had to see him. I would have taken the letter to the police station. But they won't believe me. Not when I had a history with them. So why did my father choose me? Maybe if I didn't make that mistake years ago, he would actually have showed how much he loved me. He would have told me things. I turned around, and headed out of the room without a second thought. I was more than sure that Cassie was right behind me. We both got in the car, and it felt weird. My family hadn't taken everything from me yet. It was almost like my mom and Emery were waiting for me to c***k, and then they'll strip me naked. I rested my head against the velvety seat, and closed my eyes for just a second, when the car finally came to a stop. Cassie and I got out of the car, and I couldn't help but notice how she kept looking at me. I couldn't tell if she was trying to look out for me, or just make sure I didn't do something stupid. The bouncer gave us a small nod, as we both walked in. Cassie linked her arm with mine, and the bass of the club seemed to vibrate through my chest. The smell of alcohol and smoke seemed to cloud my senses. f**k, I loved this. I missed this. “I'll be with you in a few minutes,” I said, unlinking my arms from Cassie's, as I headed into the private lounge. I heard Cassie call out to me, but I was barely listening to her. Zade had to be in the private lounge. And that was all that mattered. Yet another bouncer stopped me at the entrance of the private lounge. I was seconds away from rolling my eyes. “Who are you looking for?” He asked, making me fold my arms across my chest. “Zade Morretti.” A certain expression passed the bouncer's face. One that I couldn't quite catch. “And you are…?” He asked, looking at me from head to toe. I could feel myself get smaller at his gaze. I had almost said my actual name, when I bit my tongue. “I'm Tina Carlos.” I said, trying to keep any atom of fear out of my voice. What was I getting myself into? The bouncer suddenly unfolded his arms, and gestured for me to follow him. That easy? My hands were balled into fists at my side, as I followed him anyway. He led me into some kind of underground private room. The whole place had red bulbs only. He finally opened one more door, and practically pushed me inside. “Someone is here to see you, boss,” he said, and in the room that were filled with different men in suits, there was one at the center of the room. He had tattoos trailing up his arm. His dark hair was scattered in a ‘just got out of bed’ way. The first two buttons of his shirt was undone, and his legs were crossed. He suddenly looked up at me, and his jaw tightened. They were already hard enough for cut through wood. Zade. He leaned back against his chair. “Who sent you?” He asked. I was already wringing my arms in front of me. The guns on the table told me everything I needed to know. At that point, I was already regretting all my life decisions. Fuck, I should have thought things over. Why was I taking such a risk for a dead man? For justice? Did Emery and mom know about all this? Why didn't he choose them? He made it clear all these years that he didn't want me around. That I was the daughter they all tolerated. “I came to see you on my own,” I muttered under my breath. A sneer seemed to play against the sides of his lips, and he c****d his head to the side. “Wrong answer.” I frowned. “What do you…?” I had barely gotten the words out, when I received a sharp blow to my head. I opened my mouth to scream, but nothing came out of my mouth. The red room had seemed to blur, and tears filled my eyes. I had a sharp intake of breath, and my knees gave away, as I crumbled to the floor in a heap. The last thing I saw was Zade, getting to his feet.
