The Alpha’s breaking Point

“I’m designing a better spine brace for wolves who get injured during shifts.”Giovanni raised an eyebrow.“That’s ambitious.”He shrugged.“You fix wolves. I want to help too.”Her chest tightened slightly. Five years ago she had fled this territory to protect him from the brutal world of Alpha politics. And now he was unknowingly stepping closer to it.“You’re very smart,” she said gently.Leo grinned.“Like you.”Giovanni ruffled his hair before glancing toward the door. “Did anyone come by while I was gone?”Leo nodded.“That tall guy with the dark hair.”Xavier.“What did he want?”Leo shrugged.“He asked if I liked it here.”“And what did you say?”“That it’s weird.”Giovanni chuckled softly. “Fair answer.” But the information unsettled her.Xavier rarely did anything without a reason.Across the estate, Russell stood inside the war room studying a digital map of the territory. Red markers highlighted recent pack movements along the borders. But his focus had little to do with territory defense today.Declan stood beside him reviewing reports.“The boy has been inside the estate grounds all morning,” he said carefully. Russell nodded.“And Giovanni?”“Medical wing earlier. Now back in the guest suite.”Russell’s jaw tightened slightly at the sound of her real name.He still hadn’t confronted her about the deception directly.Something inside him resisted forcing the truth into the open too quickly. Because once he did…Everything between them would change.Declan hesitated before speaking again.“There’s another issue, Alpha.”Russell glanced at him.“Xavier.”Russell’s eyes narrowed. “What about him?”“He’s been spending time near the guest wing.”Russell’s expression darkened immediately.“Too much time.”Declan nodded.“Yes.”Russell turned away from the map slowly.Xavier had always been ambitious. Dangerously so.But Russell had tolerated it because the man was brilliant. Now that same ambition threatened to become something else entirely.“Keep him away from Leo,” Russell said quietly.Declan inclined his head. “Yes, Alpha.” Later that evening, Giovanni walked alone through the estate gardens. The setting sun painted the sky with deep shades of gold and crimson, casting long shadows across the stone paths. She needed air.Space to think.Returning here had reopened wounds she thought time had sealed.Every corner of the estate carried memories. Some painful. Some… complicated.Footsteps approached behind her.“You’re a difficult person to find,” Xavier said lightly. Giovanni didn’t turn around.“You seem determined to try.”He stepped beside her, hands in his pockets. The fading sunlight reflected faintly in his dark eyes.“You’re handling this situation remarkably well,” he said.Giovanni continued walking. “I assume that’s a compliment.”“It’s admiration.”She stopped and faced him.“What do you want, Xavier?”He smiled faintly.“I told you before. I want to help you.”“Help me do what?” His voice lowered slightly.“Destroy Russell.”The bluntness of the statement hung in the air.Giovanni studied him carefully.“You’re talking about your Alpha.”“Am I?” Xavier shrugged. “Or am I talking about a tyrant who rules through fear?” Giovanni said nothing.Xavier stepped closer.“You deserve justice,” he continued quietly. “What he did to you”“Was five years ago.”“And still unforgivable.”Giovanni’s eyes sharpened.“You seem very invested in my pain.” Xavier’s smile faded slightly.“I always noticed you.”The confession came unexpectedly.“Even when you were just the quiet Alpha’s wife walking these halls.”Giovanni’s voice remained calm.“And now?”“Now you’re something far more interesting.” His gaze drifted toward the estate.“Russell believes he owns everything here. Power. Loyalty. Bloodlines.”Xavier looked back at her.“But you proved he was wrong.”Giovanni folded her arms.“You’re asking me to betray him.”“I’m asking you to finish what you started.” The words lingered between them.Giovanni finally spoke.“You’re dangerous.”Xavier laughed softly.“So are you.”He turned to leave but paused.“Oh and one more thing.” Giovanni raised an eyebrow.“Russell is losing control.”Her gaze sharpened.“What makes you think that?”Xavier glanced toward the mansion windows glowing in the distance. “Because for the first time in his life…” “He cares about something more than power.”Giovanni didn’t answer.Xavier’s final words followed her as he walked away.“And that makes him vulnerable.”From the balcony above, Russell had watched the entire conversation. He couldn’t hear the words. But he didn’t need to.The sight alone was enough.Giovanni standing in the fading light.Xavier beside her.Talking.Too close.Something hot and possessive twisted violently in Russell’s chest. His wolf surged forward with a low growl.Because the thought of Xavier standing near her and his sonWas suddenly unbearable. And Russell Van-Doren had never tolerated threats to what belonged to him. Not in his territory. Not in his pack. And certainly not in his family. The storm gathering inside the Alpha was growing stronger by the hour. And when it finally broke…No one in the Van-Doren empire would escape the consequences. The Van-Doren territory had never felt so unstable. For years, the pack had lived under the crushing certainty of Alpha Russell Van-Doren’s rule. His authority had been absolute, his judgment swift and merciless. Wolves feared him, respected him, and followed him without question. Now something had changed. The Alpha had become unpredictable. It started the moment Russell discovered the truth. His heir was alive. And the woman he had buried five years ago the woman he had mourned in silence, hunted avengers for, and secretly blamed himself for losing had been alive the entire time. Giovanni.Or Dimitri.Or whatever name she chose to hide behind. She had returned not as the fragile, obedient Luna he remembered. She had returned as something else.Something dangerous. And now Russell could not stop thinking about her. The realization gnawed at him like a slow infection. The night air was sharp as he stood on the balcony outside his office, overlooking the dark forest surrounding the Van-Doren estate. He barely slept anymore.Every time he closed his eyes he saw the same images.Giovanni smiling at him during their wedding.
