Nerves and shivers

Elara sat at the table, trying to keep her nerves in check. The word "pack" echoed in her mind. It couldn’t mean what she thought it did… could it? When Damon returned, his expression was tight, his usual composure fractured. "I’m sorry about that," he said, sitting down. "It’s fine," Elara replied, though her curiosity never left. "Is everything okay?" He hesitated, his fingers drumming on the table. "Elara, there’s something I need to tell you. But not here." "Why not?" she asked, her voice soft. "Because once you know the truth, everything will change," he said, with his eyes laid on her like a freshly drawn tattoo "And I’m not sure you’re ready." Elara’s heart pounded. "Damon, you’re scaring me." He reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "Trust me. You’ll understand soon." The ride back to her house was silent, tension filled in the air. Damon walked her to the door, his eyes searching hers. "Tomorrow night. Meet me in the woods." "The woods?" she asked, her brow furrowing. "Please," he said. He spoke like he was whispering and did not want anyone around to hear. "It’s important." Elara nodded, though her mind was racing. As he walked away, she couldn’t help but wonder what she was getting herself into. The next evening, Elara wandered into the forest, the full moon spilling its pale light over the trees. When she stepped into the clearing, Damon was already waiting, his figure glowing like a shadow carved from silver. "You came," he said, the relief evident in his voice. "Of course," she replied. "Now, tell me what’s going on." Damon took a deep breath. "Elara, I’m not like other men." She crossed her arms. "I figured that much." He gave a small smile. "I’m serious. There’s a reason I’ve always been drawn to the moon, to the wild. It’s because… I’m a werewolf." Elara stared at him, waiting for the punchline. But none came. "You’re joking, right?" Damon shook his head. "I wish I were." Before she could respond, a howl echoed through the woods, followed by the sound of footsteps. Victor emerged from the shadows, his expression grim. "We’re out of time." Damon turned to Elara, his eyes glowing once more. "I need you to trust me, Elara. No matter what happens, stay by my side." Before she could answer, Victor’s body began to change. His muscles bulged, his face elongated, and fur sprouted across his skin. Elara stumbled back, her heart racing. Damon stepped in front of her, his voice firm. "You’ll have to go through me first, Victor."
