I keep on looking around, the gymnasium is full of people. I saw many students, they all were cheerful and happy to meet with their friends. They all are wearing blue dresses. Which is the same as mine. Desvon keeps on telling me to wear blue, he knows that I'm kinda rebellious when it comes to parties. I don't follow rules, so when they say to wear black I will wear grey. If they say to wear a dress I will wear pants. However, that was back in my college years, I've kind of grown up already.
"Is it really fine for me to be here? Look, I think I'm the only outsider here." I said to Desvon as he kept on drinking the juice he got from the waiter.
"Come on sister get some fun. Look, some of the gentlemen here are not from our college." He said pointing at a guy.
"Pshh. I really don't like it." I keep on complaining.
"Haha. Will you at least loosen up, you look like the world owes you something." Move on my back and massage my shoulders. "Or maybe you can go try to hook up. Some guy here might be interested in you." He pointed towards a boy who kept on looking at us.
"Shut up!" I said and rolled my eyes.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen!" Everyone suddenly kept quiet when the master of the ceremony started talking and introducing the dean.
I was woken up when Desvon talked beside me. "Let's go meet my friends." He pulled me towards some guys, which I think are his friends. I just realize the Dean already left the stage, I didn't pay attention to what he was saying a while ago.
"Slow down," I said as I am wearing my heels and I nearly stumbled.
"Anthony!"
"Hey, Desvon my boy!" The guy who I think is Anthony. There are other three guys with him and with their dates. The guys did some fistbumps while I just look at them. When they are finished, they turn towards me. The girls studied me from head to toe.
"Mind introducing us to this lady with you?" Anthony.
"Yeah right. Didn't know you know such a beautiful person." The other guy.
"Tsk, what beautiful? This is my sister and I don't think she's beautiful. Look, isn't she fa- ouch!" I cut him off by knocking on his head.
"Respect." I crossed my arm and face his friends.
I smiled at them "You heard him right? I am his older sister, my name is Hannah nice to meet you." I stretch my hand for a shakehand but they look so stunned.
"Hannah Rae?" I look at one of the girls and examine her face. She smiled and her face looks so excited.
"It's you, how are you? I'm Gina don't you remember me?" She asks and the realization hit me.
"Oh! Gina Jones. Hello, I'm fine. Woah! Look how much you've grown I almost didn't recognize you." I said as we embrace each other. Gina is one of Desvon's friends in high school so I know her.
"Haha, not that much. But you look even more beautiful now."
"Oh just lost some weight!" I said and we both giggled.
We talked for a while and the boys loosen up a bit and finally introduce their names together with the other girls.
"Hannah will be leaving you here first, some friends are calling us." Gina.
"Oh yeah, go on I'll be fine here." The girls left while the boys were having fun on the dance floor. When Desvon look at my side I motioned him to come.
When he reached my side he pulled me up until we are on the dance floor.
"Let's dance!" Desvon urges me to dance.
"I don't know how to dance!" I shouted as the music is so loud. He just laughed and pulled me to turn around.
"Woo!! Let's enjoy the night!" He exclaimed and we just did side steps but a little faster because of the music. Even his friends joined in and we just laughed at our silly dances.
"Hahahaha. That was fun!" We were all laughing as we sat down and drink. We were all catching our breaths, especially me. I'm a bit dizzy, these boys keep on turning me around.
"Enough, I can not do it anymore."
As we are sitting the girls came bringing us food. I only picked some and excuse myself.
"What?" Desvon asked when I pat his back.
"I'll be outside, when you're done call me," I told him and he can only say "okay".
While they were enjoying I took my purse and walk outside. It's a bit chilly tonight but the weather is fine.
No people are roaming around outside, well it's nearly midnight anyway and that's good. The place looks so peaceful and the stars are out tonight. I just walk around around the gymnasium as I cannot stay to far, until I reach the back part of the gym. Mathen University is one of the largest and most well-known Schools in the country and I'm proud to be an alumnus of this great school. Through the years I can now see some improvements. Finding a better place to sit down I suddenly bump into someone.
" Woahhh!" I was about to fall when a hand grabs me.
"Miss Simon?" I opened my eyes only to see a handsome face looking down at me just above my head.
"Sir Ash?" He smiled at me.
"Yeah, it's me."
"Ahem, Earth to people! Yow, I'm still here you know." I finally came back to my senses and instantly fix myself. I turn to the person who just talked only to see another handsome man.
"Sir Larkins, good evening!" I greeted him when I realized who is it. He is Clay Aaron Larkins he's one of Mathen University College of Engineering's instructors. Also brother of Sir Ash. Though he's not one of our instructors in college most of us Communication students know him because of Sir Ash.
He just squinted his eyes and finally smiled. "Ohh!" He looks shocked and like he realizes something.
"Hello, Miss Hannah Rae Simon." He greeted back making me surprised that he knows me. That's something I didn't expect.
"Oh don't ask how I know your name." He added when he saw my reaction. I don't know, but he looks happy.
"Psshh! Why don't you just go already, they need you at the party." Sir Ash meddled in.
"Hmmph, bad brother. Just because you saw her you are already kicking me away." I didn't understand his last sentence but he sure is pouting.
"Shut up! Or I'll kick you for real." Sir Ash threatened him. He just sticks his tongue out and runs from him. "Bleeh!"
"Bye Hannah, can I just call you Hannah?" He asked before running. I just laughed at his personality, he's just easy-go-lucky.
"What are you doing here?" I look at Sir Ash this time. He doesn't look like the usual person I know. He is wearing a hoody and not in his usual trousers but some jogging pants. He still looks handsome though. I don't know but I suddenly feel hot all over my face when he looked at my whole appearance.
"I-I was just walking around." I scratch the back of my neck. "Well, my brother has no date so he invited me to the party." I could only explain.
"Oh, that explains why. But why are you not there? They must be having fun there." I look behind me but we can not see the gymnasium from here though.
"Yeah, they are. However, it's just not my thing and there are too many people."
After some time, Sir Ash decided to roam around with me.
"By the way Sir. Why are you here?" I ask him. It's just, it is not normal to see him at school at night.
"Clay begged me to drive him here."
"Oh." That's why they're together. " The weather is quite fine, look, the stars are out." When I was abroad I didn't have the time to watch stars. Or most of the time there are no stars there.
"Yeah, they're beautiful." I look at him but he is not looking at the sky. He just smiled at me which made me somehow blush. I'm not used to this.
We continued walking.
"Have you always walked here at night before? Like you know where you are going even if it's dark" He asked.
"No, it's just my intuition. Haha. Back in college I never go out at night. When most of the girls my age dated and go out I stayed at home, sleeping and always alone." I can not help but feel sad as I remember those nights. How cold it was to just watch the glaring night lights of the city from the apartment's balcony.
"Look!" I run towards the little flowers just at the foot of the Cypress tree. I sat down to touch them. The light from the post on the side gives it a beautiful glow.
"How cute!" The flowers were so small and has different colours.
"Do you love flowers?" I looked at him, he was just standing behind me, and somehow the awkwardness was gone.
"No, not that much. I don't know much about flowers but I love those little flowers that bloom at night like these." I look at the flowers again. "They just give me a different vibe," I explained. Looking at the little flowers.
"The sun was nowhere to be seen
The wind blows, and it's quite cold
This place is dim, well nearly dark
But its beauty still glows
As it catches this eyes of mine." I looked at him. This poem, it's very familiar to me.
"Night Bloomers," I whispered.
" This is your entry poem before, I always say how deep a person you are. This poem is so beautiful that I still remember it now. I finally understand what you mean by those words."
Yeah, I like writing poems, it's where I can freely express my feelings and emotion. The only thing is I never let anyone read it.
"Yeah it's beautiful I even racked my brain up just to come up with that. But I never won any place on that. Hmmph!" I said and crossed my arms.
He just laugh at my complaint. "Haha don't ask me. I didn't judge it." I just pouted and started walking.
"But for real, most of us were quite disappointed that yours didn't win first place." He said while following me.
"Well, I'm not upset though," I said and smiled again. Well, that competition was based on likes and shares and I don't have many friends on social media so I understand.
