"Oh no!" I screamed when I could not find my wallet. I tried looking under the wooden sofa. On the table, under the bed. In my bag, but I couldn't.
I just put my make-up on and was ready to leave when I realized my wallet was not in my bag. "Where the f**k is it?" Now I start to curse and nearly teary-eyed. There's my ATM card, credit cards and important IDs inside of it.
Don't tell me I lost it on my way yesterday. I know it was just in my bag because I paid for the coffee. "Oh right at the cafe."
I started running after closing the door of the apartment. People kept looking my way when I passed them, but I didn't bother to know why. Running for almost 5 minutes I came in front of the cafe. I rushed inside, luckily they were open already.
"Excuse me?" I said catching the attention of the person at the counter.
"Yes, good morning miss-" I cut off what she's about to say and ask.
"Last night have you seen any wallet here?"
"I- I'm sorry miss but we haven't seen one." When she said those it was like I lost all hope and was about to burst out.
"Oh!" That's what only came out of my mouth. I stepped outside and just sat on the stairs as this cafe is located on the second floor.
"Waah! Mommy, where should I find it!" I wailed and didn't bother how I just sat there.
"Miss Hannah?" I look at the person behind me. And he looked surprised by the way I looked. Maybe I look scary and cold at the same time, but what can I do I was keeping myself from crying.
"Yes?" I only said. He's one of the baristas. They all know me here except those new ones because I always come here before. This became our hangout 6 years ago.
"I just wanna say the guy with you yesterday gave me this." He gave me a piece of paper. I opened it and saw a cellphone number.
Looking at him questioningly, he just scratches his head. "Well, he said you might come back here later or tomorrow and he gave me that. He said he has your things." He explained to me.
Hearing that another hope rose in my chest.
"Is that so? Thanks!" So he has my wallet. Thank God! I ran away without paying attention to him calling my name.
Reaching the gate of the university I didn't waste time and ran in front of the building I'm familiar with. I wasn't sure if this was still his office so I took out the paper. I was still thinking if I should call him or not. In the end, I still need my wallet.
"Good morning Sir Ash." I started as I heard him say hello.
"Oh! Ms Simon. Are you looking for your wallet? Yes, I do have it." He said which gave me a sigh of relief.
"Yes Sir. I'm inside the school just in front of the office building. Are you here by the way?" I asked politely.
"Oh yes, wait for me there. "
I sat on the bench as I waited for him. It's a little colder today so l hug myself as I forgot my suit jacket and I'm only wearing a dress. I also keep on stomping my feet while I stare at the entrance of the building.
When I saw a person wave his hand a sigh of relief escaped my chest. A while ago I really wanted to cry. I thought I wouldn't be able to find it again. Come on, most of my cards were there which means all of my money was also there. I will surely lose my sanity if I lose it. He walks in front of me with the wallet in his hand. Standing I smiled at him.
"Oops!"
It was quite windy today and I forgot to tie my hair so it blew up and covered my face, just what the heck. I was about to be embarrassed but he chuckled which made me pout my lips and look at him. He continues chuckling making me laugh too trying to fix my hair.
"Did you wait for too long?"
"No. Just a bit-" I was cut off when my phone suddenly rang inside my bag. "Sorry sir, just a minute." I excused myself and turned my back on Sir Ash. "Yes hello!" I answered
"Hey, Hannah, where the heck are you?" I heard June on the other end.
"Oh!" I checked my watch only to be shocked, "Oh no I'm late!" I exclaimed it's already 8:40. And my class starts at 9.
"Yes, you are. If you don't come now Miss Shien might do something again." She said trying to scare me.
"Yeah, yeah I'm coming," I said and hung up.
Facing Sir Ash I awkwardly smiled at him.
"Here." He gave me my wallet and I took it.
"Thank you, sir! I thought I lost it, I'm really careless." I said to him thankfully. Luckily it was he who picked it up. What if someone unhonest does, maybe I would never see it again.
"No worries, you're things are still safe inside."
"Yeah. I might need to go Sir. Again thank you!" I said and was about to leave when he held my elbows stopping me.
"Wait, I can drive you there." He said.
And of course, I tried to reject his offer" No need sir. I can still get a taxi. Maybe you have a class I can not disturb you."
"No, no, it's okay I insist. Come on you're already late right?" He motioned me to follow him to the parking lot, I don't have a choice but to go. It's also a good thing I don't need to compete with other people in the taxi. Yeah, let's think like that.
As we drove along the road I could only tell him where to go. He's even surprised at how far it was.
"It's far, How do you manage to still live there? Don't you plan to live near it?" I just laughed at what he said.
"I don't have a choice it's the only place I have. Well, I do plan to." Laureen also asked me that. But I just keep quiet I never told anyone aside from Miah that I bought a condominium in the Center City. At least there it wouldn't take an hour for me to reach the Torturing school.
"Wait for me here, I'll just go get something." He said and went outside. I didn't know where did he go but he came back with a paper bag in his hand.
After fixing himself on the seat he suddenly stretched his hand towards me.
"Here." I looked at him questioningly and took it. Upon opening the paper bag I saw a pair of shoes.
"Sir Ash?" I looked at him and he smiled before looking at my feet.
"As you might not have noticed but you are still wearing your slippers."
Looking at my feet, I just realized I forgot to wear my shoes. I'm still wearing my bunny slippers. I was very preoccupied with retrieving my wallet and not only forgot my jacket but even my shoes.
"Just wear it don't try to return it to me. It's second hand so it doesn't cost much." He said before I could utter a word of protest. Wearing it, it was surprisingly my size.
