POV: Sera
The Primordials descended like falling stars.
Seven of them. Massive beyond comprehension. Each one different, some humanoid, some bestial, some shapes that hurt to look at directly.
And they were all looking at us.
At Ember. At me. At Kade, standing beside me with wounds that should have killed him but didn't.
"The convergence is complete," one of them said. Its voice was like continents grinding together. "The three anchors united. The door fully open."
"We didn't open it for you," I said. Tried to sound brave. Probably failed.
"Didn't you?" Another Primordial laughed. This one looked almost human, beautiful even except for the eyes. Too many eyes. All watching. All knowing. "You chose to unite. To become one. That choice IS the door."
"Then we'll close it."
