The Unraveling truth

1085 Words
Sandra, her assistant, hesitated for a brief moment before hurrying out of the office, leaving Dera alone with her thoughts. She looked down at the papers again, disbelief flooding her system. She could feel her pulse quicken, and her hands trembled as she ran them over the crisp edges of the document. Who could have done this? Who would go so far as to forge something so damaging? The door to her office opened, and Samuel stepped in, his expression unreadable. He had a reputation for being cool-headed, always with a controlled demeanor, but today, something about him felt off. "Ms. Smith," Samuel greeted, his voice soft but carrying an edge that suggested something had shifted between them. "What is it you need?" Dera didn’t waste time with pleasantries. She held up the papers, letting them fall onto the desk with a sharp thud. "You tell me, Samuel. These were left on my desk this morning. Care to explain?" Samuel’s eyes flickered for the briefest moment, but he quickly regained his composure. He stepped forward, his gaze shifting from the papers back to Dera. "I... I don’t know anything about that." "Don’t lie to me." Dera's voice trembled with a mixture of anger and fear. "These are my signatures, Samuel. And I never signed anything like this. Someone forged my name. Now, I want to know who did it, and I want answers." Samuel’s lips parted slightly, as if weighing his response. He took a moment before speaking again, his voice lower this time. "You know the stakes, Dera. There are people who don’t want you in control. You’ve been making too many waves. You think everyone in this company is on your side? Some of us have been trying to keep things from falling apart." Dera’s heart pounded, but her anger flared as she processed his words. "So, you’re telling me that you know about this? You know who’s behind this? Who else is involved in this scheme, Samuel?" He shifted uneasily but refused to meet her gaze. "I didn’t say that. But people are scared, Dera. There are factions within the company that have been trying to bring you down for months. You’re playing a dangerous game." Her breath hitched in her throat, and she stood up from her desk, her hands clenched into fists. "This is beyond a game, Samuel. This is my life. And if you think I’m going to let anyone—anyone—destroy everything I’ve worked for, you’re gravely mistaken." The silence that followed felt oppressive, the air thick with the weight of their unspoken words. Samuel’s expression softened, a trace of regret crossing his features. "I didn’t mean to upset you, Dera. But you have to understand—you’ve been making enemies. And there are things you don’t know about your own family. Your father has always been a step ahead of you. This company... it’s more than just business. It’s about power. And if you don’t play the game the right way, you’ll lose." Dera took a deep breath, her mind racing. What Samuel was saying made sense in a way she hadn’t fully understood until now. Her father’s legacy wasn’t just about wealth and success—it was about control, about maintaining a power dynamic that stretched far beyond what she had ever imagined. But it didn’t matter. She wasn’t going to be a pawn in her father’s game. Not anymore. She had worked too hard for this, fought too long to let anyone tear it all down. "Get me everything you have on this," Dera ordered, her voice colder than ice. "I want names. I want details. And if you’re hiding anything from me, you’re going to regret it." Samuel stood there for a long moment, studying her. Finally, he gave a reluctant nod. "I’ll get you what you need." As he turned to leave, Dera watched him closely, her mind swirling with suspicion. Was Samuel part of this? Or was he just another pawn being played by someone else? She couldn’t be sure. But one thing was clear: she was no longer going to sit back and let things unfold around her. The truth was out there, buried in the shadows of her family’s empire, and she was going to uncover it—no matter the cost. The following morning, Dera arrived at the office with renewed determination. Her conversation with Samuel had only added fuel to the fire that had already been smoldering inside her. She wasn’t going to wait for things to happen. She was going to take control. But as soon as she stepped into the building, she could sense that something was off. There was a buzz of activity in the halls, a tension in the air that felt almost palpable. Her assistant Sandra was at her desk, looking more anxious than usual. “Ms. Smith, we’ve just received some troubling news,” Sandra said, her voice tight. “There’s been a leak. Someone’s sent confidential company information to a rival firm.” Dera’s stomach sank. “Who?” “We don’t know yet. But we’re tracing the source. We believe it might be someone within the company—someone close to the upper management team.” Dera gritted her teeth, her anger flaring once again. The walls were closing in on her, and she could feel the pressure building. There were so many people working against her, so many hidden forces at play. She had trusted the wrong people, believed in loyalty where there was none. “Start the investigation immediately,” Dera commanded. “I want to know who is behind this and what information they’ve shared. We can’t afford any more leaks. Not now.” As Sandra nodded and moved to carry out her instructions, Dera sank into her chair, her hands trembling slightly. This was no longer just a battle for control of the company. This was war. And she wasn’t sure who was on her side anymore. She thought of Richard. He had always been her anchor, the one person who had never wavered in his support. But now, she wondered if their love could survive the storm that was brewing around them. She had put so much of herself into this fight, but at what cost? And as she stared out of her office window, watching the city below, she knew that the hardest decision was yet to come. Who could she trust? And who was playing a dangerous game with her heart?
