Chapter Six Ellie was enjoying the walk. The sunlight cast little reflected pockets of brilliance off the paved surface. This was certainly not what I had expected to be doing on my first afternoon at the college. I did not know quite what I had expected, but walking through a tree shaded avenue, lit by dappled sunlight was not it! My thoughts had just begun to wander when my attention was drawn forward by an odd metal, striking tarmac, thunking! The sound continued, closing with a steady repetitive slapping. Straining my eyes I looked along the track for my first sight of the horse, for that is what I expected to meet; after all, I was walking on the ride!
