I wish this was a nightmare... a cruel joke made by the Moon Goddess. I wish this wasn't real. But it is.
I was about to lose everything simply because I couldn't transform into my wolf form.
Everyone was either staring at me with mockery or pity.
"I always knew she wasn't fit to be the Alpha's daughter," someone murmured.
"All she knows is run after Carl around like a stupid, worthless girl."
"She's useless."
"A waste product."
"I'd rather be dead than wolfless."
They continued throwing harsh words at me.
Every single word felt like a sharp knife tearing through my skin.
I dropped to my knees, feeling defeated and helpless.
"Wait."
I froze as I heard my uncle Marcus's voice.
He was my father's Beta and younger brother, and the only one who had ever shown me love while staying out of our family drama.
I looked up to see Alpha George and Luna Emily glaring at him, annoyed that their judgment had been interrupted.
"Alpha George, Luna Emily," Uncle Marcus said, stepping forward. "We shouldn't demote her to an Omega yet."
"She's eighteen and wolfless, Marcus," my mother snapped. "There is no time."
"She still has a future mate," Uncle Marcus argued, pointing toward the crowd. "Carl Williams comes from an Alpha bloodline. If he marks and claims her, she won't become an Omega. She'll be the mate of a high-ranking wolf. Our pack law respects the mate bond above all."
My father and mother fell silent.
They knew he was right.
If Carl marked and claimed me...
I would be safe.
Hope suddenly bloomed inside my heart.
Ignoring the stares and the dirt covering my body, I walked toward Carl, who was standing beside Juliet.
I remembered when Carl first joined our pack. His father, an Alpha from another pack, had been killed. Seeking protection, they came to us.
The moment I saw him, I felt a pull deep within my soul.
I knew instantly that he was my fated mate.
He always told me he didn't care if I was wolfless.
He said he would always love me for who I was.
He told me he couldn't wait to claim me on my eighteenth birthday so the whole world would know I belonged to him.
I reached him and grabbed his hand tightly.
"Carl," I whispered, my eyes searching his. "Please... claim me. Mark me publicly as your mate right now. Tell them."
My father looked at Carl, his arms crossed.
"Well, Carl? What's your decision?"
I looked at Carl, waiting for him to pull me into his arms and defend me.
Waiting for him to say the words that would save me from everlasting disgrace.
Instead...
Carl remained silent for a long moment.
His eyes were colder than I had ever seen.
Slowly, he pulled my hands off him as though they were trash.
"No," Carl said, his voice husky and loud enough for everyone to hear. "I won't claim her. I don't want Camilla as my mate."
"I already found my fated mate."
A sharp, brutal pain shot through my chest as the words left his mouth.
No...
This had to be a joke.
"But, Carl... I'm supposed to be your mate," I whispered, my voice trembling from the betrayal.
"You're wrong, Cam," he replied.
He didn't even look at me.
Instead, he reached out and pulled my sister, Juliet, against his side.
Holding her close, he looked at my father.
"Juliet is my fated mate. She was gifted to me by the Goddess."
I felt like throwing up.
I looked at Luna Emily and saw the triumphant smile on her face.
"Why, Carl?" I cried. "Why would you betray me? You said you loved me."
"I need a strong Luna to help me rule my pack once I graduate from the Werewolf Royal Academy," he answered without a trace of remorse. "Not a weak, wolfless mate like you. You'd only be a liability."
He looked directly into my eyes.
"I, Carl Williams, reject you as my fated mate."
The rejection hit me like a thunderstorm.
I stumbled backward as tears streamed down my face.
"I'm sorry, Camilla," Juliet said.
But the smirk on her face told an entirely different story.
A smirk of victory.
"Enough of this drama," my mother said dismissively. "Get ready to work, daughter. You have floors to scrub."
Uncle Marcus gave me one last sorrowful look before walking away with the Alpha and Luna.
One by one, the pack members left.
Leaving me standing alone in the open field.
I couldn't breathe.
The betrayal was too much.
I ran.
Out of the field.
Into the woods.
I kept running until my legs ached and my throat burned.
I just needed to regain my sanity.
When I finally reached a small clearing, the familiar peace of the place surrounded me.
My tears slowly dried, and the tightness in my muscles eased.
I usually came here only in the mornings.
But tonight...
I needed the silence to mend my broken heart.
In the middle of the oasis stood a beautiful white bathtub carved from stone and decorated with wildflowers.
It was filled with crystal-clear spring water that always soothed my skin.
The entire place was shrouded in darkness.
Without thinking twice, I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the warm water.
The sweet scent of flowers wrapped around my senses as I slowly sank deeper into the bath.
But the moment I settled my weight...
I realized the tub wasn't empty.
I froze.
There was a hard, muscular body beneath me.
My eyes widened as I felt the unmistakable firmness of a c**k body beneath my thighs.
"Goddess!"
I shrieked, trying to jump out of the tub.
Before I could move, a large, firm hand gripped my bare breast while another wrapped around my neck, pulling me hard against a solid chest.
"Are you lost, Sunshine?" a deep, -smooth voice whispered against my ear.
"Or did you come to offer yourself to me?"
