Chapter One
“You w***e, who else did you sleep with? This baby cannot be mine.” Gustavo flung the pregnancy report on my face, my eyes widened with shock and disappointment.
“Are you accusing me of being unfaithful to you?” I stammered, my voice coming out as a pained whisper. My heart sank as I watched him deny his own pup, his flesh and blood.
“I came back after a two month visit to the silver raven pack and now you are suddenly with child? pregnant with my pup. Does that even make sense?” Gustavo’s growl was filled with disbelief heavily laced with frustration.
My mind was a whirlwind of emotions as I stared at my mate. I had eagerly awaited his return with unbridled happiness , expecting him to engulf me in a tight embrace and share in the joy of the magic we created. I had pictured that he would be overjoyed to know that he was going to be a father.
However, the last thing that I expected was for Gustavo to be filled with such rage at the news of my pregnancy, accusing me without remorse of infidelity and even going as far as rejecting his own child.
“I swear on everything that I hold dear to me that this is your baby Gustavo.” My voice shook, “Have you forgotten that you showed up in my room two months ago drunk? We made love all through the night and without protection.” I tried to remind him of that night, desperately in need of his acceptance of what rightfully belonged to him. But all I got in return was his hostile rejection.
“So you plan on using my drunken state that night against me? I was drunk, but you were sober and fully aware of what was going on. If I failed to use a condom, you could have protected yourself and taken the morning after pill or birth control to prevent unwanted situations like this.”
“Unwanted?” My heart shattered into tiny shards following Gustavo’s painful outburst. I treasured the moment that I shared with him that night and the memories were deeply ingrained in every fiber of my being. But for him, even our child was unwanted.
I bit the insides of my mouth, forcing myself not to break down in front of him and continued. “When I woke up the next day you were gone and the feast of blades was just around the corner. We both know that if an unmarried wolf visits the infirmary for things like morning after pills or birth controls, she will be taken to the dungeons of sinners and my image will be forever marred. Do you think I was overly elated when I found out that I was pregnant?” I choked on my own words, a whimper escaping my lips.
I took careful, cautious steps towards him, his gaze fully fixated on mine as I spoke. “I was so scared Gustavo, alone and had no idea what to do when I found out I was pregnant. But this baby, this baby is our miracle.” I lifted his hand and placed it on my flat tummy as I spoke.
His reaction to my words was the opposite of what I expected. “Our miracle?” He hissed out, irritated, roughly moving his hand from my tummy. “Our bond in the first place is a hideous one without any formal grounds or standing. That is why I told you to lay low until I take over my father’s position as Alpha, but you had to go ahead and get pregnant didn’t you?”
Gustavo Hulio was the son of the Alpha of the Ruby park and I was an omega, the lowest in the ranking of wolves. The moon goddess mated me to Gustavo, my long -time secret crush, surprising me as well as granting my heart desires. However Gustavo and I were like fire and ice from the very beginning.
I blinked the tears back, as I tried to explain myself to him. “It just happened Gustavo. I never planned on roping you into an unwanted pregnancy. Tell me what you want me to do, and I promise I will do it.” I pleaded with him, afraid of losing him.
Gustavo had never looked at me with such disgust and irritation before. His gaze pierced me like sharp needles, creating wounds that I feared would never heal. “Get rid of the baby, you never consulted me before you decided to keep it and we both know I am not ready to be a father right now.” His cold words alarmed me, I did not expect him to suggest that I killed our baby.
“Gustavo there has to be another way around this. We can take a break, I’ll go into hiding until the child is born and your father hands over his position to you.” I cupped his cheeks while I spoke, his rigid body refusing to budge as I tried to convince him.
“You’ve made your choice, and I’ve made mine as well.” Him and his wolf spoke in unison, the distance between us alarming me as he walked away from me.
“Gustavo please wait.” I ran after him, afraid that if he walked out the door, he would be leaving my life for good.
“Don’t follow me!” He growled in warning and stormed out of the house.
I collapsed to the floor of the living room, fat drops of tears falling off my cheeks, my heart aching with blinding pain. I stared outside the window, the moon halfway in the sky reminding me that the moon goddess’s blessings added no sorrow to the receiver. Gustavo just needed a little convincing and he would see the reason why this baby was our blessing in disguise. I wiped the tears of my cheeks and raced for the stairs, in search of him.
“Camille, where are you going? The hunt is about to begin.” My best friend Elle asked me, on her way to go, to join the other members of the pack to enjoy the blessings of the moon goddess with the rising of the full moon.
“I’m going to see Alpha Gustavo,” I began but she cut me off.
“Wait, not you as well. Alpha Gustavo’s place has been flocked with people wanting to see his fiance. She is so beautiful to behold, it is no wonder that he fell head over heels for her at first sight.” She giggled as she gossiped.
My face turned pale, “fiancé?”
Elle nodded, “Yes, he brought her with him back from the silver raven pack. You did not know…”
“Elle come on let’s head out to the woods, the moon is about to rise.” Elle was about to say more when she was disrupted by someone calling out to her from the woods.
“Coming.” She responded before turning into her wolf and running to join the others.
I stood there, shocked, “Gustavo, getting married?” I gasped for air, unable to breath. I had never paid much attention to the rumors circulating around the pack for months about Gustavo’s arranged marriage to the daughter of the silver raven pack. I had dismissed it as a rumor. But it had turned out to be true, Gustavo was marrying someone else.
I fell to my knees on the ground, tears streaming on my cheeks. I knew that Alpha being involved with an Omega was never heard of. But a part of me was hoping that Gustavo and I would stand the test of time and be together. However, all my hopes were crushed by Gustavo’s hate for our child, a child that was meant to bring us together. He betrayed me and betrayed our bond.
I remained in that position for hours as the moon shone brightly in the sky and the howls of the pack wolves infiltrated the air. I waited, hoping that Gustavo would come back, but he never came.
I clenched my hand on my chest, my wolf crying, the sound resounding in my head. Now in my pregnant state, I had neither a mate nor a pack.
Heartbroken, I returned back to my house, packed my things and left the pack forever.
