A Loyal Hand

Chapter Seven I preferred being in the world of oblivion, being drunk to stupor and just riding on cloud nine. It made me forget all about reality and the fact that Gustavo did not love me. I wasn’t always this way, I was a promising young lady with big dreams to make the Silver Raven Pack the most powerful base, but my father wanted me to be married to the son of his friend. The moment I laid my eyes on Gustavo, I fell in love, it was love at first sight for me. On the day I was taken back to the Redwopd pack, I noticed his lukewarm behavior and his refusal to stay still. His bathroom breaks were longer than usual and I found it suspicious that his beta was always on the lookout. I got fed up with his absence and decided to follow him. It was there that I discovered the lady who took up all his time. He was breaking up with her and with the movements in the dimly lit room, I saw her grab his arm, holding him tightly. After a while, Gustavo walked out and crashed his knuckle on the wall and his eyes gleamed under the full moon. The full moon was up in the sky and most wolves of the pack had gone into the woods to enjoy the glory of the full moon and the thrill that came with it. It was at that moment that I realized that Gustavo’s heart had already been taken and there was no space in it for me. It was already too late to cancel our marriage and so the next few days were packed with preparations for our wedding. “Luna Chloe, you don’t look so happy for someone getting married to the most eligible bachelor in Canada.” My hand Leah said, making her concerns known. How could I look happy? I was getting married to a man whose heart was already taken. “I will be happy after a glass of wine.” I said, eyeing the unscrewed bottle of champagne resting on my dresser table. It was never my thing to drink before important moments in my life, but there was always a first time for every mistake and so, I popped open the bottle of champagne and drank half of it. At the altar, Gustavo noticed that I smelt of alcohol and his expression matched that of the guests and my parents who were in attendance. The irony of their shocked, stunned and concerned looks was that I really did not care. I was pissed at my father, angry at myself and I hated the whole charade that Gustavo was putting up. “What is wrong with you Chloe Hermes Jones?” My mother asked, as she pulled me into a quiet space after the wedding. I belched at her, the smell of alcohol causing her to scrunch her nose up at me. “He doesn't love me and he never will. How do you expect me to get married to Gustavo with clear eyes when I know that his heart belongs to another woman?” I did not expect what my mother did next, but I guess I deserved her aggression as she hit me hard on the cheeks, pulling me close to her. “Now you listen to me young lady, nobody ever gets married for love or for unrealistic fairytales. I need you to suck it up and put a smile on your face.” My mother said, her words making me sober up. All my life, I had always wanted to lead the same picture perfect marriage experience of my parents. The way they held each other in public and whispered sweet nothing in their ears. I knew what happened behind closed doors and how cold their relationship actually was, but in my own world, I still wanted to have a marriage like theirs. As I looked at Gustavo, I made up my mind to build up exactly the same fake publicity for everyone to see and admire. ‘The Power Couples.’ I liked the sound of it. With a new resolve, I put a smile on my face and went straight to my husband who was deeply engrossed in a discussion with his Beta. “Hey husband.” I said cheekily, surprising him when I placed a feathery kiss on his lips in front of everyone. From my side eyes, I could see my mom applaud me for a job well done. Gustavo appeared taken aback and reluctant to kiss me back, but he had no choice since he had all eyes focused on him and with the side of his lips, his grazed mine. That night, when we consummated our honeymoon night, I felt like we were getting somewhere, growing on each other with each deep thrust he made, but I was wrong. “Camille, ohhh Camille…” He moaned out the name of the lady I saw him, and with a final thrust he spread his seed inside me. As I laid on the bed, soaked in my tears, I cried silently, and yearned for some form of comfort for the lifetime of torture I had signed myself to. Yes, I loved Gustavo. He was the first man that made me feel giddy on my feet and sent shivers of delight down my spine whenever he was close, but he loved Camille, not me. I heard his light snores beside me, as he left me cold, not seeking to cuddle me in his embrace. I got dressed in a robe, and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water when I noticed a nice rack of liquor collections. My mouth watered at the sight of the delicious drinks and so I decided to take just a sip. ‘One sip will not hurt…’ I said to myself It was from one sip that I moved to two and then I emptied two full bottles of hard liquor. I was lucky that I did not lose my pregnancy that night, but I eventually did. Where is he, Andrew?” I had employed a private investigator to monitor Gustavo's every move since the day we got married. So far so good, there has not been any news of him being seen with a woman. “He is at the airport, and he is not alone Luna,” Andrew said, and I went into full panic mode, searching for a fresh batch of liquor. “Find out who this woman is, and get back to me!” I barked at Andrew, disconnecting the call. I tried to stay calm, and relaxed, as I feared that my world was about to completely tumble upside down with the return of this strange woman. In less than thirty minutes of speaking to Andrew, he called back. “What do you have for me?” I asked and Andrew hesitated to speak. “Do not test my patience Andrew!” “Her name is Ca—” “Camille!” I screamed into the phone, my heart beating fast in my ribcage. “Yes Luna and she arrived with two babies who according to my findings are the children of Alpha Gustavo.” Andrew's information left me drained and bamboozled into semi-insanity. I finished off the bottle of alcohol, and waited patiently to be taken to cloud nine where I did not have to think or worry about what I had just heard, but I was still sober and fully aware of the pain tied in my chest. In blind rage, I aimed for the liquor bottle on the wall and the crashing sound did nothing to ease away my rage. “Find out where she is staying and get back to me NOW!” “Yes Luna Chloe…” Andrew responded. I was still in my emotions when Leah walked in with a bowl of warm water after cleaning up the mess that I had made. I had no idea that I had injured my hands and bled from the cuts that scattered on my finger tips, but Leah did and she carefully wiped the blood off. “What did I ever do to deserve this form of treatment Leah? All I want is to be happy.” I said, while letting my guard down and crying to my heart's content. All the while that I wept, Leah was quiet, consoling with a silent pat on my back. “What do you need me to do Luna Chloe?” She asked and I could see from the intensity in her gaze that she meant it. “I need you to kill Camille…” Leah wasn't shocked by my request, instead, she smiled at me, her face lightening up with glee. “Consider it done Luna Chloe.” She said, with a tone of finality. I had a feeling that Leah was indeed going to keep to her words and by tomorrow I would wake up feeling lighter and much better. I opened a new bottle of liquor and poured it into a cup, sipping on the drink slowly and relishing its taste. Tomorrow was going to be a good day, I could feel it in my guts.
