CAMILLE'S POV “Okay kids, me and grandpa need to have a little chit chat.” I informed them, Lauren’s pout of disapproval making Alpha Benjamin throw her up in the air in a playful manner, her cheerful smile, causing him to nozzle the tip of his nose with hers. “I’ll race you to the playground.” Laurent said leadingthe way, running through the foyer and Lauren who loved a challenge followed behind him. “Come here.” The Alpha opened his arms wide for a fatherly embrace and I wrapped my hands around him, sinking into his warmth. Alpha Benjamin was the man I saved at the train station. According to him, I was the spitting resemblance of my father who saved him when he was a young Alpha. To repay my father’s kindness, he took me in as a member of his pack, and adopted me as his daughter. During my time in his pack, he had provided me with fatherly love and helped me when I wanted to leave the country to England. His love for me, he extended to my children, as their grandfather. “You said you need my help, what is the problem?” With all that he had done for me, rendering my help to him still would not compensate for how he had treated me kindly when I stayed in his pack. “I need you to return back to Canada on my behalf.” he said with a smile. “Before you say no, read this.” He placed a letter in my hand which I read. “The Owl Blue pack is willing to surrender and has agreed to reach an agreement at the Alpha ball.” It read out. The owl blue pack was a nemesis to the Rosewood pack, Alpha Benjamin made it his life mission to frustrate them. But even in their defeat, they always devised a means to come back stronger. “I need you to attend a ball on my behalf. I would have gone instead, but my heart transplant is the same day as the ball ceremony.” “Can’t Theodore go instead? He is fit for events like this.” Theodore was Alpha Benjamin’s only son and the next in line to the Alpha position. The Alpha sighed and said, “Theodore is out helping the neighboring pack fight off rogues. You are my only option.” Alpha Benjamin had never asked me for a favor before and never solicited help from me. He took me in when I had nowhere to go, taught me the ways of his pack and even introduced me to the world of politics and business. I was half a decent person because of him. “I am an omega, a weak and feeble one at that. My presence will not be able to do much at the Alpha ball.” I was concerned about not being accepted and ruining the treaty deal. One look at me and the deal might be off the table. “You are stronger than you think. I have watched you overcome situations and as my daughter you are my pride.” He held my hands in his, leaving me with no other option. “Camille, you will help me. Won’t you?” I stood there blank after listening to the Alpha. What kind of game was the moon goddess playing with me? ****************** Due to the bad weather, the plane landed three hours late. Stepping into the lobby of the airport, I took a deep breath. Three years later and fate had brought me back to the place that held my past and present. “Mommy look what we’ve got.” My babies had their hands filled with different varieties of snacks and chocolate bars and behind them was the beta of the redwood pack who had come to pick us from the airport. “Welcome back Camille, you have been missed.” The beta of the redwood pack said. “You know you did not have to come pick us up at the airport considering your busy schedule, I am no stranger to the city.” I said, feeling guilty that he had to leave his duty post to come pick us up. “It's not a problem Camille. I got to finally meet these beautiful bags of goodness.” I accepted the gesture wholeheartedly and smiled appreciatively at him. “Mommy, is it okay for us to eat the snacks?” Laurent asked me for permission. I pulled the twins in for a hug, for being well-mannered and behaved. “Yes, you can eat the snacks on the condition that you two stick with me at all times and listen to what mommy says. Is that a deal?” “Yay! It’s a deal.” They bounced on their feet excitedly, as they munched on their goodies. The twins chatted away with Beta Frank, keeping him company. I was too far behind in their conversation to understand what they were saying. The Alpha Ball was hours away, I had to make reservations at the hotel and prepare before the said time. Just when I was busy setting things up with my phone, the sharp familiar scent caused my wolf to awaken. I froze in my tracks, my body turning cold. I slowly raised my head up and was met with the green depth of Reuben’s eyes. I took several steps backwards, my hands curled up in a fist. How could it be that the first person I meet after six years is Gustavo? “Camille” he called my name like he was saying a prayer, his eyes dark and intense. I clenched my fist tightly, memories of three years ago, including his betrayal flashed in my mind's eye. “Camille!” Gustavo yelled my name, his frantic footsteps following behind me. I used the opportunity of the big cart carrying heavy luggages to vanish from his sight. “Camille!” Gustavo screamed my name like he was high on something, drawing attention to himself. The police came to the scene at the airport on hearing the commotion but no one dared to touch Gustavo, the Alpha of the Ruby Pack and the richest man in Canada. He growled my name out, not caring if he scared the humans around him. My wolf searched into my eyes deep as my obsession for Gustavo itched through the surface of my resolve. Why… Why was he looking for me?
