“Yes, Alpha.”
I backed toward the connecting door on unsteady legs, my heart thundering against my ribs. Adjusting the scarf on my neck, I slipped back into my room. The soft click of the door shutting behind me sounded far louder than it should have.
I leaned against the door for a long moment and closed my eyes, trying to steady my breathing.
