Emery's POV
There were days you didn't ever want to wake up from sleep. The night I was rejected by Alpha Kade was one of those nights.
I was not on the floor, and I remembered collapsing on the floor the day before, but wherever I was now was warm and soft, but it was not my bed either. I tried not to move so much as my brain struggled to catch up with my reality. I didn't know where I was, but I had been at the mating ball. I had met my mate; he had rejected me, and then, to my never-ending heartbreak, he had taken as his mate a girl I had considered my friend as his Luna.
My eyes opened slowly; it was not too quick, more contemplating as I got used to the light that filled the room. I closed my eyes lightly, so I didn't see much of it.
"The disgrace is awake," a voice muttered, and I stilled. That was Isabelle. I sat up looking at the rest of the room. She stood there like a statue, albeit one that didn't look even a little bit remorseful. She seemed to be pleased with herself, and I guess she had reason to be proud. She was now the Luna of a pack, just as she had always dreamed.
"Why are you here?" I asked, and she sighed.
"It's Luna," she muttered, and I stilled, then burst into inappropriate laughter. She scowled, her face contorting into an ugly mask. I rose from the bed and stalked to her.
"Is being Luna that important to you that you'd ruin our relationship for it?" I asked, and she laughed.
"Of course I am; the fact that you thought you could steal this away from me is hilarious," she laughed, and I huffed.
"Of course, you can have him; I have people who love me.", I muttered. She slapped me hard. My cheeks tingled from the aftereffect, and it reddened. I paused, rubbing at my cheek. She stalked at me, grabbing at my hand.
"You have nothing, Emery. You're an orphan, a freak werewolf, an omega to boot, and then you couldn't even keep your mate; your wolf is probably crying within you day by day as the rejection eats her away, and if you think you have a home, think again, she hissed, and I shrank into myself at the harshness of her words. She wasn't just saying these things; she believed them to be true. I pulled from her grasp to walk out of the bedroom, and she laughed, calling to me.
"Honey, where do you think you're going?" she asked, and I stopped, keeping mute; there was nothing to say. I jolted when two arms grabbed mine tightly. She looked at me with a malicious grin. I screamed at the men to let me go, looking at Isabelle and asking her what was going on. She looked at me and smiled.
"Darling, you're not a part of this pack. I am Luna of this pack, and I make the decision now," she said, looking at the guards
"Get her out of here; the people taking her are waiting."
The men started dragging me away, their grip on my arm strong and painful. I screamed my head off, asking them to release me. They all ignored me, turning their faces away. I noticed Aloha Rozan, my caregiver, and waved to him, calling out his name and pleading for him to help me. He turned his face away, looking to the house where his daughter stood.
"You're not my father's property anymore.", Isabelle said as she patted me on the cheek.
"You are not the wife of Alpha Damien of the Silver Moon Pack." My heart cracked and broke into a million tiny pieces. I looked to Alpha Rozan, but he looked away stoically. I could hear the whispers in the crowd about how my alpha sold me for a hefty price. I didn't want to believe it was true, but the more I looked at him and the more he ignored it, the more I knew that he had done it and abandoned me.
So this was what she had meant; Isabelle's words played back to me in a loop.
"You have nothing, Emery. You're an orphan, a freak werewolf, and omega to boot, and then you couldn't even keep your mate; your wolf is probably crying within you day by day as the rejection eats her away, and if you think you have a home, think again. "
I was so stupid, thinking I had a family, even if it was one person. I was all alone here. The guards tossed me into the car. I yelled in pain as my shoulder connected with the door. A couple sat in the car. I knew them: Lady Rosa and her husband, the beta of the old Alpha, Beta Jasper. They too ignored me, looking straight ahead, not wanting to hear anything I might have to say, as if they hoped that by ignoring me they could get away with this. I leaned against the door, my mind racing. I couldn't go to Silver Moon Pack; I knew what it was like; everyone knew the only reason one went to that pack was for love or y, and even then, no one crossed Alpha Damien. At almost fifty, he looked younger and was far stronger; he had an appetite for almost everything in life: women, food, wine, and blood.
Their pack was vicious. The man's behavior also extended to his wives; he had many of them; rumors were he had killed the first wife; other stories spoke of abuse and torture; to be married to a man like that and to have no say over my future, be it good or bad, was not just frightening; it was heartbreaking. I had endured years in the Claws hoping to belong; I was not about to go from that to being a punching bag. I lay in wait for an opportunity. Rose and Jasper talked in low voices as he drove. I could hear them shaking their heads about my fate.
“Poor girl sold off like some doll.” They said as if they would bother to help me if given the chance, I would never forgive any one of them, I vowed. The further we drew from pack lands, the more I stiffened. I needed a miracle or anything that would stop them in their track, slow enough that I could risk jumping out. I tugged the jacket over me securely; it was soft, but at least it would help. Like an answer to my prayer, a deer jumped out of the clearing and straight into the road. Jasper swerved, the car slowing to a standstill. I cracked open the door, leaning towards it.
I pushed my weight and ed out of the car and rolled into the grass on the floor. I rolled across the grass dry and wet with morning dew, my jacket soaking through almost immediately. I could hear screaming from up the hill. I lay still trying to catch my breath. Then, with effort, I pulled myself off the ground, my arm throbbed, and I moved forward, rushing into the wood. They would come after me.
I could already hear Jasper cursing foully, I smiled thinly, I ran deeper into the forest, the trees blocked the sky more, and the sounds of birds were loud, but they distracted me briefly. I rushed forward and crashed into a male body. I looked into dark brooding eyes, panicking. I could hear Jasper and Rose just behind me. I look
ed to the Alpha and pleaded.
"Please help me."
