Chapter 13
Todd was anxious to get off the Annabelle and begin the trek to the Chancellor’s Estate, but leaving now wasn’t practical. Heidi had vocalized what they all were thinking: there was still a chance Jah’lar was on the boat. The only way to find out was to stay and try to see if Nick could spot him. Nick’s ability to see the demon inside a human was their biggest advantage; it was also their greatest disadvantage, since Jah’lar knew Nick would be able to see him.
First step in their plan to find out if Jah’lar was still on board was for Todd and Nick to spend a few hours looking around the boat. They systematically covered all the public areas of each deck. Nick didn’t spot Jah’lar, nor did they accurately identify if anyone they’d seen on the trip was missing.
