“Nicky, you know Heidi was right. I know it was difficult to hear and it’s even worse to accept, but you’re not stupid and I can see it in your face, so stop trying to deny what we both know,” Todd said. He faced the mirror in their room and tied his tie, but watched Nick’s reflection and used it to make eye contact.
Nick sat on the end of the bed to pull his lightweight pants on. He shifted his gaze so he didn’t have to look straight into the reflection of Todd’s vibrant green eyes. This room was different from the room Todd had been assigned when they’d investigated a creature called a kelbit on the Chancellor’s Estate previously. It was similar enough to that room, the room where he’d killed a shifter wearing Todd’s face, to make him uneasy.
