Chapter 35: Shadows of the Past The sun had barely set when Shanaya’s phone began to ring. An unknown number flashed on the screen. She hesitated for a moment before answering. “Hello?” Silence. Only the sound of heavy breathing filled her ears. Uneasy, she gripped the phone tighter. “Hello? Who is this?” No response—just the chilling sound of someone on the other end…listening. She asked again, voice slightly shaky. “Who are you? What do you want?” Still nothing. Then, the line went dead. Her heart raced. She stared at the phone in her hand, the hairs on her arms rising. Just then, Lorenzo entered the room, smiling as he loosened his tie. His smile faded when he saw the pale look on her face. “Shanaya?
