Everything Had Been Planned!

CHAPTER 03 My head throbbed with pain as my eyes fluttered open, trying to readjust to the light. Getting up gradually had pain shooting through my body. I folded my arms to rein in the pain, however, it worsened in my lower abdominal area. Staring down my body, I noticed that my dress had been replaced with the green-colored hospital clothing as against the blue velvet jumpsuit I had worn before. A nurse came to me when she noticed I was now conscious. Looking to my left, I sighed softly after noticing the spot where the flowers were kept was empty, meaning that no family member had visited me. It hurt so much because I wouldn't have done this to Drake or his family were they in my shoes. My own family couldn't visit me because we barely kept in touch. Karen had turned them against me and we had our fair share of family disagreements too. Tears rolled down my cheeks causing the nurse to stare at me with a confused expression. But how was I to explain to her that the man I sacrificed my happiness for three years didn't love me back? Almost immediately, my mind drifted to my baby. Worry lines were etched on my face as I wondered how it was faring. From hunger strike to an accident, did it even survive? As if hearing my thoughts, a doctor walked into my room. I jerked up, holding in the pain with an effort, "Doctor, please… How's my baby?" I asked, panic written all over my face. The doctor looked into the report card in his hand, then stared at me with a pathetic look on his face. My heart sank. Goddess, let it not be bad news. "I'm sorry...we tried our best to save you both but we could only save one, just you..." He said when goosebumps rose on my skin. My baby is gone? If there was a deeper word than pain, that was what I felt at the moment. I couldn't describe the emptiness, but it surely left a deep vacuum in my heart. My eyes burned with tears that rushed down my cheeks in torrents. I felt completely broken. A heartbeat later, the doctor left, and Drake walked into my room, taking his seat opposite me. I wondered how he knew I was there until I remembered the accident was probably reported in the news. I stabbed him with my eyes as all that pain came resurfacing to the top He had killed me...ever so slowly piercing a knife into my heart. If I hadn't gone to celebrate with him, I wouldn't have ended up this way. And if they hadn't locked me up in their basement, my health issues wouldn't have surfaced and my pup wouldn't have died while I tried to escape there. He was involved in my child's death and I wanted him far away from me. Although I couldn't protest, I faced the other side, only to squirm under his touch as his fingers brushed my right cheek, causing me to turn again to face him. It was such a shame that his touch triggered a reaction from me, but I couldn't help it. "Susan, Karen needs an immediate blood transfusion." He ground his teeth just the way he usually did when he was desperate. It was so pathetic of me to think he came here because he cared even a little about me. Turns out my blood was the only reason he came here. He snapped his fingers on my face, "Susan, are you even listening?" He asked, annoyance etching his features. “I have anemia and that means I can NO LONGER donate blood to Karen,” I whisper,d fiercely. I was my sister's blood donor ever since she was diagnosed as a sickler, only sometimes they alternated my blood with some donations from the hospitals. But that changed when I mated with Drake because he demanded that I make every single donation. According to him, my blood was healthier for her. I had obeyed, but now, it was taking a toll on my health. “You’re unbelievable Susan. You’re making this all up for my attention aren't you?” He snarled. “You're so selfish, Susan! Selfish, that's what you are! Karen's your only sister and she needs your blood but being an attention seeker's better?.” I almost laughed at the desperate tone with which he used on me. I would have called this empathy had I not just caught them at his office, but now I knew better. He was doing all this because he was sleeping with her. My sickness was the effect of a domestic accident caused by him, but I still donated blood because I loved him. But what did I get in return? A heartbreak, an accident, and a miscarriage. Was this his purpose for not letting me reject him? So he could use me as Karen's blood bank as he deemed fit? He didn't care if helping Karen would cost my well-being. I bit on my lower lip, fighting back tears threatening to spill. All he cared about was Karen. Even though I was his mate, I meant nothing to him… He wanted my life in exchange for hers but I wasn't ready to lose mine - Not after losing my pup because of him. Anger licked through my veins and had me vehemently shaking my head, “No Drake! You're the unbelievable one! Catching you trying to f**k my sister in your office, that’s unbelievable, and…” Tears choked out my words before I could finish. I nodded slowly, my teary eyes looking straight into his, “You are heartless! A cold-blooded animal!” I spat. “That’s no way to speak to your Alpha, Susan!” He growled, his eyes fiery with anger. “Susan. I own you. I decide what happens with you. This is the last time I'll be asking you nicely…” He paused, clenching his teeth in anger. “Agree with me, and let's get this over with. Refuse and face dire consequences.” The sound of feet tore my gaze from Adrian, interrupting our eye battle. A nurse approached with a tray consisting of scalpels and scissors and some other items that would probably be used to cut my bandages and dress the wounds. Much to my horror, Drake grabbed the nurse, curving his elbow around her throat. The tray fell off her hands and the contents spilled on the floor. Shooting out his fangs, Drake gashed part of her arm so that blood oozed out. She yelped in pain, but just before she could attract any attention, he pinned her against the wall and punched her face so hard, that she passed out. Gasping, my eyes widened in horror as I pressed my fingers tightly against my lips while thinking about the consequences of his actions and that was when my eyes darted to his hands - he had gloves on. Before his actions could register in my mind, he pulled out his gloves, fished out his phone, and then made a call. "911... Room 122... Datta Medical Center... Please send help! Hurry! Or someone's going to die!" His voice cracked, and his face looked ashen but once his eyes fixed on me, they became normal again. Afterward, two policemen hurried into my room. One made me sit up, pulled my hands behind me, and handcuffed me. I was still in a daze when the officer's firm hands clamped around my wrist, getting me standing on my feet. "Susan Lasko, you're under arrest for battering a hospital staff member.” They turned to Drake and nodded firmly at him, "Thanks for informing us." "Officer, please," I pleaded. "I didn't do anything…" My lips wobbled but my pleas fell on deaf ears. My red eyes settled on Drake and sadly, there wasn't any hint of remorse on his face. I wanted to tell them it was Drake and that he was trying to frame me so I could dance to his tune but no one would believe me. I knew Drake too well. He had the ropes to get around this. He must have taken care of the cameras before he made any move. Tears clouded my gaze and I let them fall as the officers led me away. As I was being dragged towards the police van, my mind flashed back to the text message I had received right before I saw the truck running in our direction - "I know you're pregnant! Now go to hell!" And everything only made one sense! Everything had been planned! My heart raced, my mind burning with the question: Did Drake have a hand in my accident just as he had in my arrest?
