Aethelwulf POV
"You either heal her or be in the same position with her, the ball is in your court, and you know better than to dribble with my words." I heard Preston say, and I felt so ashamed of him. How can he threaten his Luna? What happened to pleading with her? After all, he wronged her.
Well, that's none of my business. I made my way to the staircase, then to my room. I'm already tired of staying here. This entire Pack thing is not my thing. Probably I will be leaving by next month. Hopefully the entire pandemic must have subsided.
I unfastened my shirt buttons, then pulled off the shirt and my pants, picked them up and placed them into the laundry basket before walking into the bathroom. I turned on the shower and let the water cascade down my body, cooling off the day's stress. If I'm ever given a choice, I will always prefer the human world over here. I feel like I don't belong here. There's just this off feeling about everything.
I heard a knock on my door and I rolled my eyes at whoever was there, disturbing my solemn moment.
"Aethelwulf," Preston called out from the room.
"Yes," I replied while using the liquid soap on my body.
"Can you believe that Kiera refused to use any herbs on Tasha, and right now the injured part is decaying!" he let out in rage. I could feel the anger in his voice.
"Kiera just came back from the dungeon. She's obviously still recuperating. You should have assigned another healer to Tasha," I responded, with the water still cascading down my body.
"Bro! Did you just hear yourself? This b***h still has her hands and legs, so why can't she go up there and treat Tasha? What do you mean by recuperating?" I could see he was about to channel his frustration on me, and I ain't having that.
"You are right. Is she doing it now?" I asked as I turned off the shower and took a towel from the towel rack, wrapped it around my body, and walked out of the bathroom.
"She has no choice. She pissed me off right now. Trust me, if anything happens to Tasha, I will make sure I bury her alongside Kiera." He said, then turned to leave my room.
"I'm keen on which is actually your Luna," I muttered.
He didn't respond. He pushed the door open and walked out.
"That's a relief. You should deal with your problem," I added as I picked up black sweatpants and black pyjamas and slid them on. I turned off the light in my room, leaving only the nightstand on, then walked to my study desk and sat down, opened my laptop, and began to go through today's report.
I picked up my phone and dialed my secretary's number. The call connected almost immediately.
"Send me the contract M&D Group of Companies sent. I also need the accounting report." Then I hung up and continued going through the files.
While going through the files, my mind wasn't in the frame at all. My mind drifted to when I walked into Kiera's room. My fingers, which were paddling on the keyboard, stopped midair.
While staring into her eyes, something felt different. I don't know what it was, the humming of my wolf. He never says a thing to me unless he takes over. We're like two enemies in one body. Then there's this pull. I feel drawn to her in a way I can't explain. Even without a single thought, I find my legs moving toward her, wanting to hold her close, to protect her...
I've never felt that way with any woman in my life. It has always been about the body, nothing extra, but with Kiera...
"Aethelwulf, get a grip of yourself. You shouldn't be thinking about your brother's wife, that's a sin." I voiced out, and for some reason that sounded funny to me. Only if my brother knew what happened that night.
The rays of the sun penetrating through my window forced me to turn to the other side. I slowly opened my eyes. That was fast. I didn't even know when I slept off right on my study desk. I stood up and stretched my bones. I think I will need to release my wolf for a run tonight.
After taking my bath and dressing up, I walked out of my room and saw Kiera walk out of Tasha's room. She looked up and our eyes met, and she shifted her gaze immediately.
"Greetings, Alpha Aethelwulf." She greeted, and I nodded and took a slow stroll toward her.
"How are you feeling this morning?" I asked, and she nodded while adjusting the bottle in her hand for the hundredth time.
"I will be waiting for you in the hospital," I said and then made my way down the stairs. I think I make her uncomfortable. Probably she's afraid of me telling her husband about our beautiful night together.
"Hey, man," I called out to Preston, who was walking toward his car.
"Bro." He called out as he turned and walked to me and gave me a brief hug.
"How's Tasha?" I asked and he smiled slightly.
"She's getting better. I knew she just needed Kiera's expertise." He said, and I nodded in disbelief. The way he speaks as though Kiera means nothing to his Pack, whereas deep down he knows her worth.
"I'm heading to my office. I'm still working on the plan. You should come to my office today." He said, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"What are you up to?" I asked and he let out a loud narcissistic laugh. I can swear that my brother is up to no good. He can be so devilish at times.
"I'm working on the best strategy to get this done without a trace back, and I see it working. I will set a trap for them and watch them walk into it, then..." He closed the distance between us while looking directly into my eyes with his hand placed on my shoulders.
"I strike."
