You Smell Good

Martha POV Thankfully, today was much better than yesterday. With the herb being distributed all over the Pack, it has reduced the number of patients coming in, and a lot of people were even discharged today. The healing wing wasn’t as crowded, the usual tension in the air had reduced, and there was finally space to breathe and actually focus on the patients that still needed attention. Alpha was thoughtful enough to employ more hands, and honestly, it made a big difference because he knows how demanding this job can be, especially in times like this when everything feels overwhelming. The minute I reached the main road that leads directly to my house, I felt it again, goosebumps spreading all over my body just like this morning. Fear gripped me suddenly and without warning, my steps slowed down as I could feel my legs shaking beneath me, my entire body trembling slightly like something unseen had brushed past me. I took a step forward and placed my hands on my knees for support, trying to steady myself as my breathing became uneven. "What's happening?" I asked no one in particular, my voice low and confused. After a few minutes of taking deep breaths and forcing myself to calm down, I finally stood upright again, feeling a bit better than before. I sniffed the air instinctively, trying to catch any unfamiliar scent, anything that could explain what I was feeling, but there was nothing, just the normal evening air. Then I ran to cross the road, wanting to get home as quickly as possible, and just then I saw a black jeep speeding towards me, the loud honking piercing through my ears as its headlights flashed directly into my face. At that very moment, I forgot how tired my legs were, my brain shut down completely and I couldn’t process anything at all. I just stood there, frozen, watching as the car got closer and closer, the sound growing louder, the light blinding me, and before I could react, it hit me like a tornado. My body was thrown hard against the tiled road, my head hitting the ground painfully as everything went blank. "She's not human!" the voice was faint, almost like it was coming from a distance, but I still heard it clearly, like it was echoing in my head. "But her blood smells so good," another voice said, also faint, layered over the first one. I stirred slightly on the bed, turning to the other side, their voices disturbing my sleep like whispers I couldn’t shut out. "You should be careful, we have no such thing as a relationship between werewolves, they're more evil than humans," the voice continued, and at that point, I forced my eyelids open immediately and sat up, my breathing uneven as I looked around, but there was no one in the room at all. "Where is this?" I asked out loud, my eyes scanning the surroundings. The entire room was dark, the walls looked ancient and rough, clearly made of stone, and it didn’t make sense because who still uses stone walls in this age and time? The structure of the room made it even worse, it looked more like a cave than an actual building, enclosed and unfamiliar. "Hello?" I called out as I hurried out of the bed, but immediately I felt a heavy headache crash into me, forcing me to sit back down as I held my head. I stayed there for a moment before dragging myself up again, ignoring the discomfort. Scented stick candles were the only source of light in the room, their flames flickering slightly, casting shadows on the walls. I could barely see any window, and it made me wonder how the owner of this place even breathes in here. I turned to look at the bed and noticed the headboard properly this time, it had the carving of a strange creature, its long fangs stretched out, and those same fangs were holding candle sticks. I took a step backward unconsciously, my eyes scanning the black bedsheets and the overall dark setting, everything about it felt wrong and unsettling. I can’t believe I’ve been kidnapped, but by who exactly? The thought crossed my mind quickly, something about this place screamed danger, like whoever owned it wasn’t normal at all. "You're having a good time, aren't you?" I stuttered immediately at the sound of that voice, my body going stiff as I turned around. A man was standing by the doorway, his figure tall and still, dressed completely in black from head to toe. My heart skipped a beat, flipping in my chest as I stared at him. For a second, I genuinely thought I was in hell, like I was about to have a conversation with Lucifer himself, because that was the only explanation that made sense to me at that moment. He took a step closer and then suddenly his face registered in my mind, the same man from this morning. "I'm not Lucifer, more dangerous than him actually," he said as he took another step forward, and immediately I felt it again, goosebumps rising all over my body. My heartbeat picked up rapidly and I could swear he was hearing it louder than I could. How the hell did he even know what I was thinking? "How are you feeling this morning?" he asked, his tone calm, and I took a step backward instinctively, missing my step and in the next second, I fell, my body hitting the tiled floor. Thankfully, it was tiles, if not I would have landed on rough stone and that would have been worse. "You should be careful of your thoughts, I hear them louder than your words," he warned as he squatted down to my level, his eyes fixed on me in a way that made me feel like prey being observed. "Who are you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. He smirked slightly before standing up again and stretching his hand toward me. I hesitated for a second before taking it, and he pulled me up easily. His hand felt rough and firm at the same time, the grip strong enough to make me aware of his strength. "My name is Damien," he said, introducing himself, and I was about to say my name when he raised his hand slightly, stopping me. "Say that, Martha." My eyes widened immediately, confusion and fear mixing together. How the hell did he know my name? "You don't want to know that, trust me," he added, his tone making it sound more like a warning than reassurance. "How did I get here?" I asked, keeping my eyes on him, but in a second, he wasn’t standing in front of me anymore. I turned my head quickly and saw him standing right beside me instead. "Look at the mirror, then try to remember, I don't have time for baseless conversation," he said, and almost immediately after, he wasn’t there again. "What the hell is happening?" I asked, turning around, trying to find him, but he was nowhere in sight. At this point, I was convinced something wasn’t right, this couldn’t be normal, it felt more like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. I noticed the bandage on my head and placed my hand on it carefully, and then everything started coming back in flashes, leaving the hospital, crossing the road, the car, the impact, and then nothing. "Okay, I get it now, thank you so much for saving my life, how can I get back to my room?" I said out loud as I started walking slowly toward the door, my steps cautious. Before I could get there, I saw him again, leaning against the door like he had been there the whole time, holding a cup filled with a red drink. "I will send you home," he said as he walked toward me, closing the distance between us. He came so close that I could feel the goosebumps spreading even across my face. He wrapped his hand around my waist, pulling me slightly closer, and for a second, it felt hard to breathe. "You smell so good," he whispered close to my neck, his breath warm against my skin, and before I could react, I felt something sharp against my neck. "Ahhhhhhhhh!"
