The pressure of Sean’s arm around my waist felt as heavy as lead as we walked out of the house together and when we approached the table where my parents still sat my mother tilted her head from under its canopy of a wide brimmed hat and eyed us appraisingly, her eyes gleaming, “You would make such beautiful babies and I simply cannot wait for my grandchild to come so that I can at last throw the most perfect christening party this town has ever seen, Anna Mae will be green with envy and probably stop with that tired story about her grandson and the summer party she threw him.” When I sat down on her left side she fixed me with a steely gaze and said, “I do hope you have been doing exactly what the doctor asked you to do, you know you have to be careful with this one.” Her eyes drifted
