Chapter 20

1708 Words
GARRISON O’GRADY POV I need to keep an eye on Detective Ryans and Detective Stone’s investigation. Thanks to the little tip off from my competition I now know that I had to tread carefully from now on. I remained where I sat, watching the squad room. My disguise was particularly genius this time. I laughed when Ryans talked down the FBI agent before she stalked off to a room around the corner. I had succeeded in pissing off Detective Ryans and I smiled to myself as I watched her storm off around the corner. Moments later Ryans came storming out of the room and out the front doors, anger written all over her face. Mack soon entered the room that Ryans just left and who came out of the room with Mack nearly made me choke! Mack led Xavier back to his desk! I moved a little closer so that I could eavesdrop without raising suspicion. I overheard them talking about me. So, Xavier was using Detective Stone to find me. I need to step up my plan because it was only a matter of time before they caught on to me. I quietly exited the room and headed towards the security gate. I place my gun and anything metal in the tub. I held up my ID so it could get scanned. “Afternoon Cam, how is your day so far?” I asked as I stepped through the metal detector. Cam smiled. “Well, so far my day has gone by smoothly. How about your day, Special Agent Johnston?” I smiled at her. “Please call me Trip and my day is going splendidly, thanks for asking.” I grabbed my things and headed towards the front doors. “Drive safe, Trip.” Cam said as I walked out the doors. I smiled at her, little did she know who I really am and how dangerous I am. I decided that I needed to come up with a plan b in case plan a flopped. I would think of a plan b later, first things first, I needed to grab Xavier to teach him a lesson. At first I was going to kill Detective Ryans because she killed me brother but now I wanted her to stay alive to suffer like I am suffering, knowing that she couldn’t save her husband or child! I need to find out where the child in question is. I had already pushed my luck with Detective Ryans and Detective Stone so I decided to f**k with Xavier. I drove down the street a little ways before pulling into a secluded parking lot in an alleyway. I pulled out my burner phone and called Xavier’s phone number and waited for him to answer the phone. I placed a voice modulator against my throat to disguise my voice. Xavier didn’t answer but I left him a voice mail regardless. “Well Xavier, it looks as though ye are an individual that needs a couple hard lessons before ye learn anything! Did ye think that I wouldn’t find out that ye had gone to the cops?! That was a huge mistake so as yer punishment I have taken yer daughter! Now I don’t normally mess with kids but ye and Sierra have forced me hand! I cannot promise ye that yer daughter won’t be harmed!” I smiled to me self as I hung up the phone. All I had to do now was wait for me prey! I waited for a few minutes before I drove back to the police department and parked across the street with an unobstructed view to witness the chaos I created. Just as I had hoped, Xavier came running out, followed by Mack Stone. They both hopped into their own cars and raced out of the parking lot. I followed them but stayed far enough back that I wouldn’t be seen. I followed them down Skutles Avenue East, then turned left of Maple Blvd. We drove for a couple of blocks then turned left of Steele St. They parked in front of a 2-story, blue rustic townhouse. I drove past and parked a couple houses down the street. I waited there listening to the scanner. All units be advised of a possible kidnap victim. A 4-year-old girl, by the name of Chancey Conway, she is Detective Ryan’s daughter. She was last seen at 1903 Steele St, wearing purple footed pajamas with black dragons on it, she has red hair and she is about 2’5”. If you encounter her approach with caution, kidnapper is believed to be a known serial killer Garrison O’Grady! Didn’t expect this but now I have a legit reason to be seen here. I pulled out of my hidden spot and parked near the end of the driveway. I jumped out of the car and raced up the steps to where Xavier, Detective Stone and Chancey was standing near the entrance. “Detective Stone, I got here as fast as I could! I just heard over the scanner that a Chancey Conway was kidnapped, is that correct?” I already knew the answer but I have to play along. Mack eyed me with suspicion and Xavier pulled Chancey around the back of his body like he was shielding her from harm. “Special Agent Johnston? How did you get here so fast?” “I was just a street away when I heard the scanner.” I said a little dejectedly. Mack just kept eyeing me but he answered anyway. “It was apparently a false alarm, I was just about to call dispatch to cancel the Amber Alert.” Xavier cautiously approached me. “My name is Xavier Conway and this is my daughter.” He motioned towards the red-headed child in his arms. “Chancey can you say hello to…?” I smiled and waved, This couldn’t be going any better, if I had set it up me self! “The name is Agent Johnston. Pleasure to meet you, Chancey.” I then looked back to Mack. “So, what happened, if you don’t mind my asking?” Mack looked at Xavier before he answered. “Well, a little while ago a man called Xavier’s cell and told him that his daughter had been kidnapped.” Mack looked at Chancey then back to me. “As you can see, it wasn’t true.” “So, what are you going to do now?” I had to keep this stupid charade long enough so that I could find a way to take Chancey without raising suspicions. I could see that Mack and Xavier were deep in thought. I looked at Chancey but she surprised me by already staring at me. Her eyes flickered different colors, which startled me more. Mack broke my thoughts when he spoke. “I don’t know but I think that Sierra should know what is happening.” Mack smiled down at Chancey. “Xavier, we need to take her to a safe house. We don’t know if there is actually a target on her back or not.” Mack looked at his watch. “Xavier, you and Sierra need to discuss what to do. You guys can’t stay at your house and now mine is no longer safe.” I was waiting for an opening and Mack just gave it to me. “The FBI has a Witness Protection Program that can house victims in safe houses. I can place your daughter there until you or Sierra find a safe place for her or she is out of danger.” I kept my watchful eyes on Xavier and Mack to see if they suspected me. Xavier slowly pulled his phone out and made a call. “Sierra, can you come to Mack’s place? There is something that we need to discuss.” Mack grabbed Chancey out of Xavier’s arms while he was on the phone. “It’s okay sweetheart, everything is going to be fine.” Xavier ended the call and put his phone in his back pocket. “She is on her way.” Xavier then took Chancey to the kitchen for something to eat. Within minutes of the call ending Sierra was screeching on to the driveway. She jumped out of the car the second the car was parked and turned off. “Is Chancey okay? How did the BASTARD, get your phone number?!” She ran up the stairs and immediately grabbed for Chancey. Mack gave her over freely, knowing that I needed physical contact to help calm me down. She apparently was holding on a little too tight because Chancey told her in a quiet breath. “Mommy…I can’t…br-breath!” Sierra instantly loosened her grip. “I’m sorry, I was just so relieved that you are okay. Mommy was so worried!” She hugged Chancey again, lighter this time. Then she noticed me standing there witnessing everything. “What the hell are you doing here?!” Xavier answered her instead. “He offered to take Chancey into protective custody until she is no longer in danger.” She was eyeing me with suspicion. “Xavier, what do you think we should do?” “I think that it is a good idea, at least until we take care of the immediate threat.” He attempted to reassure her but she was not having it. Sierra put Chancey down and then reluctantly handed her over to me. “Honey, mommy and daddy will come for you when you are out of danger okay? Please be good for Special Agent Johnston, we love you very much and we will be in touch soon.” Chancey wrapped her little arms around Sierra’s neck. “I love you too mommy. How long will it be until we see each other again?” Chancey asked, tears welling up in her eyes. I grabbed Chancey’s hand as I faced both Xavier and Sierra. “I will call you when she is safe.” I then led Chancey to my car, I can’t believe that they gave their daughter over to me on a silver platter! This was way too easy! I thought to myself as I drove away.
