Following Elizabeth’s lead, the two took the only empty seats which were on the third row. But Regina felt uneasy as she noticed the curious glances her fellow students sent her way. She felt her new classmates were probably already wondering whether she earned her place in the program or if it was simply a matter of wealth and connections.
“sorry for bumping into you like that…I’m Elizabeth…but you can call me Liz” Elizabeth had leaned closer to Regina now, apologizing for her rudeness earlier. Being the polite girl that she was, Regina smiled with a nod.
“Gina…”
It was obvious from just their first meeting the kind of person Elizabeth was. Bold and a bit bashful, but at the same time kind and welcoming. She was much taller than Regina, standing at 5’8, her build was a bit muscular for a woman, as though she worked out a lot, and maybe she did. Elizabeth had tanned skin which complimented her hazelnut eyes which were beaming with pure mischief. And for the rest of the class, it was just Liz either falling asleep between notes, or trying to strike up a conversation with Regina.
Regina didn’t mind though. It might not have been how she pictured her first day to have gone, but it was more than what she had expected too. Plus, she thinks she’s made a new friend. But for some reason, that feeling of anxiety never left her for the rest of the class. As though someone was drilling holes at the back of her head. It felt so palpable that she would shift uncomfortably in her seat from time to time, but she was too scared to actually turn and take a look for herself who was staring at her.
After two hours. The class finally came to an end, and everyone gathered their things to leave, exiting the classroom one by one until it was almost over. Regina on the other had was still packing her things when she’d heard the familiar voice, her blood turned to ice. It couldn’t be.
“hey, bean hat…” it was Isaac, peering down at her from where he stood, just three rows behind her. Regina turned, finally meeting his gaze. It was Isaac.
Once the two women took a tour round the campus with Elizabeth showing her the ropes, Regina walked home, but not before picking up a few things from the grocery store. In the large complex building of her apartment, the woman felt lonely.
Surely crossing paths with that woman in the alley on the day they had was a coincidence, but meeting her again in his class was definitely bad luck of some sorts. As Isaac could vividly remember how he had almost lost control of his wolf when she had been near him, which was something that almost never happened. Because it had only been at the ages of fifteen that he learnt how to control himself, which was a feat not many wolves could brag off. Controlling your primal instincts just a year after your first transformation.
But that day he had almost lost himself, and all because of that woman. And to keep himself from losing it completely he had to smoke a little extra to calm his nerves, lest he would have done something regrettable or worst, got exposed. He never smoked more than one or two sticks a day, unless he was stressed out or as a distraction from the pain of keeping your most primal instincts in check. And losing control was not a risk he had been willing to take in broad daylight, and especially not in front of that brat, Liam.
The two were rivals in every sense of it, right from the days Isaac had just moved to Alora with his mother, June. And there weren’t that many wolves within the area at the time, except for Liam and those other two. There was a hierarchy and at the very top was Liam, given his wolf tendencies, it was easy to bully and overwhelm the normies. This was what they called the human children, and for a while, he’d enjoyed his privileges, because nobody was dumb enough to challenge Liam, at least until Isaac came to town and beat the snot out of Liam and his pack on just his first day at Alora middle school, much to the surprise of pretty much everyone who witnessed the fight that day. The new kid against the resident bullies. And just like that, a new “alpha” had been crowned. Even after many years had gone by, Isaac only grew that more terrifying. His speed, his physique, his intelligence and his strength. Nobody wanted to get on Isaac Fritz’ bad side.
And if he had lost control then, Liam would only have a reason to disrespect him, and that was something Isaac did not want. And for a werewolf to lose control of his own, especially when it wasn’t even a full moon would mean he was weak. He’d already beaten Liam up once for over stepping his boundaries, but he never seemed to get the message. Isaac was just worried that he might end up killing the brat someday. After all Wolves were terribly prideful creatures who believed in brute force, and established dominance over runts in that way. Liam and his groupies were no exception. It was also in that moment that he realized he could never meet that woman again, she was just too much of a threat to him.
Growing up, Isaac had never been the superstitious kind, but it couldn’t have been a mere coincidence that the universe made him cross paths again with the woman named Regina. He had been up back in his usually seat, just out of view of anyone who walked in, and far back enough that the others wouldn’t stare at him like they usually did. But just hidden enough that he could observe everyone else. And that included the new student with whom he had already been acquainted with.
It was still so strange the way his wolf seemed to react to her very presence whenever she was near. An animalistic urge to take her as his. Her scent, her touch, they all made his wolf howl with a burning desire for her that he could not understand where it was suddenly stemming from. In all honesty as they sat so close to one another, he never took his eyes off her, studying her every movement with such a terrifying and scrutinizing intensity that she could fell it. He heard how the steady rhythm of her beating heart change, beating against her chest like a drum. She had been anxious, probably because she was a new student meeting all these people, or perhaps it was the knowledge that the rest were silently judging her because of her family name, a rich girl. And maybe they were…tch. But Isaac couldn’t care less about her family status or where she sat in the food chain. All he wanted to know was how this unassuming girl could make him writhe in his own skin as he fought against his urges?
Isaac had been with many beautiful women in the past, and Regina wasn’t even half as beautiful as they were. But his wolf had never been so…out of control before, so what made her stand out from the rest?
His rational mind told him she was trouble and he should avoid her for his own safety. He’d never known this woman from anywhere, so why did she have such a pull on him? Maybe she was a hunter and was using some kind of potent drug to draw him out? Then again, looking at her, if she couldn’t handle Liam and his groupies, how could she take him on. Yet still, the possibilities of her being a hunter were low, but definitely not zero. Alora was a pretty big city, with only about a hundred or less werewolves who don’t usually go looking for trouble so as not to draw attention to themselves, then again there were idiots like Liam. But that didn’t stop the hunters from doing what they did, hunt. And if there even was the possibility that this woman could be one, he would take care of her, before she could get to him.
