The Past

It's been the three months and today is D day. They had to present their ideas and numbers to the CEO. She grabbed her binder with her numbers and off to the board room.

"Can I have your attention for a moment?" Jake asked

"Sure,  what's up?" Katrinah said

"I updated the numbers and here are the new ones. Looks like plan two was the best, with the best profits and best customer satisfaction." Jake said

"Thanks Jake. I didn't think any of them work and I was wrong." Katrinah said

"Actually they were all good, but our clients absolutely  love option three. It is the best fit for us." He smiled at her

"Thanks. I will add this with my report." She smiled and thanked her data engineer.

She sped walked to the meeting knowing she was almost late. She walked in seconds before the CEO.

"So give me your reports." He collected them. "Now tell me what worked Myke?"

"Our sales have been going up." Myke said

"Has it been better then our best quarter?" Not looking good for him. I'm not liking this road. We'll fail in sales.

"I'm not sure sir." Myke says

"Jeremey How did things go for you?"  Jarrod asked

" I think I needed to have a back up plan, as my plan failed and I had to come up with something for the team to do. In the end I found a way to bounce back and we actually brought back six clients that we lost."  Jeremy said

" Katrinah"

" I really blew it except my team is flawless and gave each of my options life. According to the numbers the best of the three options we tried is option two. I have the numbers here, I didn't have time to make copies for everyone so if you would like to look here is the results of all three methods with specific details of each. As for best for the company will be option 2 which had the best outcomes and results."

She still looked nervous. Her confidence was low. We need to groom her in not showing her weakness. He wanted to wait to look at the reports in his office with the execs but he needed to see it, he caught Jack opening her report, so he waited to see Jack's reaction. When Jack's eyes got big he decided to wait then Jack smiled,  he felt himself sigh. He looked up watching each manager, He wasn't impressed with Myke and Jeremey, sounds like they should have gotten more asssistance but didn't and they one who didn't really need it wore ever department out making sure what changes made in their department had a positive impact on all the other areas of the company. 

"Do any of you feel like you need more training to be a better manager or do you think you have everything you need to run your department?"

Yes"

" I hate to admit this but I'm not sure I'm ready to be a manager yet. I feel like I took up a lot of other people's time, A lot of things I was no prepared for and I may need another manager for my department" Katrinah said

"Actually I would not accept you stepping down." Marylyn said

"May I ask why?" Katrinah asked

"Because you sought help when you didn't have an answer, I don't know about any other of the managers here, but I truly appreciate the work you have done over the past three months. You really made me feel like I'm an important part of your team. When you asked for my input on your plans since it will have an impact on my department it made me look at myself as a manager because there are many things that we change and never consider the effects we will have on other departments. IF it is okay with you Mr. Wittmore I would like to suggest that we always bring changes to this meeting so that each manager can prepare their teams for roll outs that will effect their teams. This is the ideal place to do that because then we can all have input on changes and the transitions will be easier. I would rather work with someone that asks me everything then for customers telling us about changes in other areas. I believe she will be one of our best managers yet, I would reject her demotion if I were you." Marylyn said 

"Good point. You will each have a 90 day evaluation, this will factor into what happens. That is all for today. "He got up and left.

"You really stand behind her that much Mare?" Jack said

"Yes. You looked at those numbers. We'd be crazy to let her grow some other company like this. The other two can go but she is a keeper and we better bend over backwards to keep her. The intelligence and insight on her will skyrocket this business and open other doors for this company. We were talking about her plan number 3, by the way we need her total ideas that she have written and look at them as a way to go into other areas of business. We can groom her into the perfect business woman. We can take her insight and start new companies that does all the things we outsource." She said

"I can't argue about the two, I saw what they did. She is the best of the three but is there better out there to replace all three?" Jack said

" I agree with Marylyn, we can try to find a better manager but she is solid and she is totally invested in the company." Jarrod said

"Why do you say that?" Marylyn and Jack asked.

" I never told you why I work late and is the last to leave did I?" Jarrod asked

"No"

"I leave late to see who is having trouble or just overworked. I always stop on each floor and if there is anyone left when I leave I invite them to dinner and help them with the issue and get to know them as a person. I have spent quite a bit of time with her over the last three months. If she is always talking to you other managers. She's here late trying to make sure that any changes she make will have a positive impact on the rest of the company. I'm not willing to lose her. She is way too valuable to let her go. The question what are we going to do with the other two, they are pitiful and as far as I know neither one is going to be progressive and bring new ideas. After talking to  some of both of their staff they don't listen to their team either. I think I'm going to do a party to find a good manager to replace them." Jarrod said

"What do you have against her Jack?" Marylyn asked

"Nothing, but she make us men look bad, like we don't know what we are doing." Jack said

"Your ego is too much for me, Jarrod talk to your friend about business and get this head out of his..... Never mind anything else we need to discuss before I go back to my desk?" Marylyn asked.

"No, But I will make the final decision on the future of the three of them. I've got to go meet my parents for lunch in 30 minutes. So if there is nothing else...??"

"This is the first time that you are going to make the final decision, why is this different?" Marylyn asked

" Because I feel something about this set that I don't want to get distracted and miss my intuition on this. There is something special here. I just have to find it." Jarrod answered.

"I respect your choice, I will leave this set in your hands. Tell your parents hi and that I will be there for dinner sunday night." Marylyn said and walked out

"I think you need more than your intuition to make this decision let us all make the decision" Jack said

"Why do you not trust my instincts all of a sudden?" Jarrod asked, mind clicking

" Just I don't want you to be clouded by a pretty face and be taken advantage of."

"Who's taking advantage of anyone? Someone trying to take advantage of you?" Jarrod asked, looking at Jack.

"No, just don't want you to lose yourself behind a pretty face." Jack said

"Thanks, but it's not about her, it the papers and the numbers that I am looking at." He replied paying attention to Jack and making a note to watch some videos and figure this mystery out.

Jack left and Jarrod continue working until he went to meet his parents.

 " I want my sister now. It's been 20 years why have noone found her. Zach expand to the entire world" Henry stated.

 "Yes sire, are you sure about this? Your mother is not in the best of health, though you're father isn't that much better " Zach said to his friend.

 "I know but I can't let them leave the world without them seeing her again." Henry said.

 "Search expanded to the world to find Katrinah." Zach said turning to walk away.

"Thank you, it's the least I can do" Henry said.

"So son when are you going to get serious about a wife and kids? " his father asked as he sat down.

"When I find someone I can't live without, I will get married. I want what you and mom have. Just someone to love me for who I am. Is that so wrong?" Jarrod asked.

 "No son but it's about time  you  starting looking for her.are you even trying? " his mom asked.

"Right now I have three new managers to train, I don't have time. I will honestly start looking when I get the company settled. I promise, boy scout honor. "He said smiling at his mom. 

"It has nothing to do with the past relationship a and everything to do with having a successful shipping business, that keeps restructuring." he said earnestly.

"I trust you son." his father said.

"I want you married in the next two years or I'm a arranging you a marriage." His mother said.

"Mom , please don't. It's like to fall in love on my own, if you will. Can I  fall in love on my own? Please" he said begging his mom 

 "I don't want some gold digger to take your chance for love. Do me a favor and take someone on a date within the weeks."

" I took Katrinah to dinner. She's really nice. "

"Good! Can we meet her?" Mom asked.

" Mom she's one of the new managers who always work late, and..... "

"You treat her to dinner because she's the last one there. Maybe there is hope for you finding someone. Maybe  she is your match as you and her seem the same about work. I'd like to meet her." Mom said.

 Maybe at the annual Christmas party. by the way Marylyn said see you Sunday." he said.

They enjoyed the rest of lunch takling about a variety of topics. All three going back to work.
