Without a second thought, I asked Iris to take over, my chest squeezing so tightly that I could barely breathe.
“Max. What happened?” I quickly asked.
“What do you mean?” He asked, confusion lacing his tone.
“You’re—you’re—” I stammered, trailing off as I realized I was overthinking. The trauma of witnessing Lucius being trapped seemed to have taken deeper root than I had anticipated. I shook my head and forced a smile. “Nothing. I just didn’t expect to see you shift.”
