Valentina's pov
Once I got home from practice, I was drained that I ended up taking a 30 minute nap, until my mom woke up saying that we have to go to her boss house.
I instantly woke up, and that's what I am currently doing. Picking out an outfit is difficult to do, when you have the same outfits over and over. I had more clothes, but I left all of those back in Mexico.
I scrimmage through my closet trying to find a good outfit to wear to impress my moms boss. Not an impression of looks, but an impression of sophistication. Although I don't have any formal clothes in my closet, I end up picking a leather skirt with a zipper in the middle, and a light pink silk crop top. For my shoes I ended up going with black heels, I didn't feel like wearing anything else.
For my look, it was simple. I had my hair down which was wavy from the braids I had on, and 2 braids on my hair from both of the strands of my hair. My makeup is simple with my mascara done and eyeliner following after. I did have foundation and concealer on, however, not as much was on my face.
After finishing my look, I made my way downstairs going to my moms room.
I walk inside her room seeing her dressed in a black pencil skirt, with a red top and black heels. Damn she looks good.
"Wow, que bonita." (So pretty) I say complimenting her, causing her to smile.
"Tu también." (You too) My mom says, looking at me from what she created.
"So who's this boss of yours and why did she invite you to her place?" I question curiously, picking my purse up and inserting my pepper spray in for caution.
"Her name is Martha Martinez, she's the CEO of the company I'm working at which is BEX. It's a fashion company." She specifies, picking up her purse and slinging it on her arm.
"A fashion company?!?! Is she like... a fashion designer?" I ask in shock. How the hell did my mom get this job?!?
"No, but some of her main employees are, I just do paperwork and stuff." She says, looking at herself through her mirror.
My mom is 32 years old, but looks in her 20's. She had me when she was 15 years old with my dad who was 21 at the time. Yes it's a big age gap, but they were in love and I guess that's all that matters.
In fact, when my dad and mom had me after my brother who's only a year older than me, they didn't want anymore kids. Ultimately, they wanted another one, but then my dad died so it never got to that point.
"Are you ready? We have to go already." My mom asks, brushing over her hair one last time then grabbing her car keys.
"Si, vamos." (Yes, let's go.) I say, walking out the door and into the car, as I wait for her to lock the house door.
"Do you want me to get you a car?" My mom asks randomly, turning the key to the ignition and reversing out of the driveway.
I thought about it, and do I even want a car? I mean, it would save me time from my mom taking me everywhere, and Gina as well, but my anxiety is the reason I hate driving. Why can't I drive without having anxiety? Especially with the big trailer trucks, that s**t gives me so much anxiety.
"Yeah." I say with hesitation in my voice. I swear that I want one, so I can drive to Starbucks and go to the stores whenever I want.
"Okay well tomorrow after school I'll take you to pick one out. Now don't think I can't afford it, because I can, therefore you deserve it okay?" My mom smiles.
I love my mom so much.
"Are you sure though, I don't want to—"
"Cállate, te voy a comprar uno okay? No hagas preguntas." (Shut up, I'm going to buy you one, don't ask questions.) She cuts me off, turning sharply to a street filled with mansions.
Wait I know this street.... I think....
——-
My mom pulls into the driveway of... Heavens house? Oh f**k no! Are you kidding me right now??!
"Mami, estás enserio?" (Mom, are you serious?) I question. She looks at me with a confused stare and turns off the car.
"Que?" (What?) She asks curiously.
"You brought me to my enemies house." I say and she rolls her eyes, getting out of the car and straight up ignoring me.
"Mami, I'm being serious. You'll see right now, just watch." I warn, as we walk towards the door before knocking.
My hands are sweating and I'm nervous as f**k, like why am I even here?!?
Oh right, I was forced.
The door was flung open by a blonde woman in her 40s. Her hair was in a ponytail with a middle part, and she was wearing a simple blue dress with black flats.
"Hi, Maribel." The woman says enthusiastically pulling my mom into a brief hug, then turning her attention to me with her emerald eyes.
God I have thing for colored eyes, especially green like god damn it's attractive.
"And you must be Valentina." She extends her hand to shake mine, which I accepted.
"Yes ma'am." I say with a voice crack, that makes me want to internally kill myself right here on the spot.
The blonde woman just laughs and welcomes us into her home that I've been before.
Rich white people I tell ya. Imagine being rich? Could never.
"Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier my name is Martha, or you can call me Ms. Moore." She says, making us follow her to the kitchen. I nod even though she can't see me.
Dumbass.
Immediately walking into the kitchen which was literally huge, I saw a bunch of men and women huddled together in one table. As soon as they see my mom, they greet her making me stand awkwardly beside kitchen counter.
"Everyone, this is my daughter Valentina." My mom speaks, motioning her hand towards me. I awkwardly wave at them, and they all smile and wave back.
God I want to f*****g die right now.
"Wow your daughter is so gorgeous." One woman with black hair says, causing me to smile and thank her.
Everyone agrees with her and talk amongst themselves, while I stand here still awkward about everything.
Ms. Moore leaves the kitchen and now I'm standing here alone.
Mom please help me or god whoever just please take me and throw me off a cliff.
"Come here honey." My mom says in sweet voice.
She never uses that voice which is creeping me out. What happened to my mom and who did that to her?!?!
I walk towards her and look at her, as she motions me to sit next to her.
I sit on the dark green leather chair while everyone stares at me. What the f**k?
I just ignore it and go on my phone. That's the way I avoid all the awkwardness and conflicts.
"Heaven, meet Mrs. Gomez and her daughter Valentina." Mrs. Moore says, immediately resulting in Heaven to look up and look at me. Straight at me!
Damn she almost broke her damn neck doing that.
She makes a grimacing face at me, before she says, "Hello Mrs. Martinez, it's a pleasure to meet you." Heaven shakes her hand from beside my mom.
I look at Heaven and roll my eyes because she's being rude and not even introducing herself to me. Even though I know her, it's still rude like girl have some decency.
"Hi." I mumbled thinking she wouldn't hear me, but she did because she said, "Hey" back.
"I know that you guys know each other from cheerleading, I'm not stupid." Ms. Moore speaks, bringing Heaven and I to look at each other. She looks at me analyzing my outfit then staring directly at my chest. Ummm, what the f**k?
Heaven rolls her eyes and sits in the chair in front of mine. I don't complain about it, and just let it be. I grab some water that was on the table and pour myself a glass.
"So, Valentina... would you ever consider being in the model industry?" The same woman with black hair asks, in result to me almost choking on the water.
Me being a model? Is this girl on some drugs I don't know about? Why would she even ask me that question!?!
"I wish I can see myself doing that, but I don't think I'm model material enough." I speak feeling insecure about myself.
"Let me get straight to the point, I think you're beautiful. I'm looking for a girl to help this company with girls around your age, you'll get paid for it of course. Also since you're 17 and almost 18, I just need your parents approval." The woman says, as the maids were bringing out our food.
Should I do it? You know what, f**k it.
"Okay I'll do it." I nod, digging into my food because I'm starving.
The food that's in front of me is Chicken Alfredo, which is my absolute favorite with green spaghetti, literally chef kiss.
I quickly cave into the food, quickly savoring the taste.
"Great, I'll get your details from your mother and I'll text you whenever your first book is." She smiles.
I look in Heavens direction and she looks lost. I mean, lost. It's like she's sad about something and I'm kinda worried for her.
Although she may hate my guts, I still care for her. I'm not a cruel person who's going to let a person suffer.
She got up and left the kitchen, I didn't even hesitate and got up with her, following her. Not in a creepy way, but in a caring way.
I follow her outside the balcony where she kneels down to find a small brown box and taking..... weed out from there. Oh....?
Didn't know she smoked weed but I guess I'll learn stuff about her on the way.
"What are you doing?" She asks, finally noticing my presence. She grabs her pre-rolled blunt and lights it up with a lighter.
"Just making sure you're okay. You just walked out." I say. She puts the blunt in between her lips and inhales taking a hit.
"Yeah, I hate people so I wanted to be alone, but you're here so you're ruining my peace." Heaven says softly, looking out from the balcony with the blunt in her hand.
"I didn't know that you smoke?" I question slightly, more rhetorically than a question.
"Yeah, but if you tell anyone I'll kill you. I can't have anyone thinking that the captain of the cheerleader team smokes weed." She says looking into my eyes practically begging me to not say a word.
I nod and motion my finger like zipper to ensure her that I'll keep my mouth shut. God I'm such a child. She giggles and shakes her head taking another hit.
Oh my god, did she giggle? I made the famous Heaven Martinez giggle?!!!
"Did I just make you giggle?"
"No." She lies straight to my face.
"So then the giggling I heard...wasn't you? It was your evil twin sister or something?" I laugh walking closer to her.
"Don't mention it, okay? I usually don't laugh or let alone— have anyone watch me smoke." She utters.
"You know, you don't need anyone thinking or saying anything about you, if you smoke weed that's your preference meaning that you like it. You shouldn't care about what others think." I reassure her. My thought of her not liking what I said is right, when she turns to look at me and furrows her eyebrows from frustration.
"And I definitely don't need you to tell me s**t I don't care about." She says seriously and I shrug.
"Take my advice or don't I don't care, but I'm telling you as a person. I don't like seeing anyone like this."
"Like what?" She instantly questions, looking straight to my eyes now.
"Like just.... Melancholy." I answer and she nods.
"So you see me that way? Do you think I'm broken or something?" She says, walking closer to me as I back away until I'm pinned on the balcony wall.
"No. I don't think your broken I think you've just been through shit." I whisper scared about what her reaction is going to be.
"You're right I've gone through s**t, but it's too much for me." She croaks, looking at me up and down with her eyes, it's like she wants to say something but she can't.
"I know, I have too, but it's okay to be the way you are there's nothing wrong with it." I say, looking at her with pure agony because I'm sad for her. I may not know what she goes through, or what she's gone through but I know for sure it's affected her so much. Maybe that's why she's the way she is, and I kinda don't blame her for it. I mean, I've gone through so much stuff too, maybe not worse than she did, or maybe it's the same yet I'm still not a vicious person and I won't ever be.
"I'm sorry." I apologize and she looks at me again with... admiration?
No it can't be, she still hates my guts.
"Don't you think that skirt is short for you?" She says, changing the subject and taking another long hit from her blunt.
Since when does she care about my clothing? Besides it's not like it's affecting anyone, so why does it matter?
"Um, no. Why do you care anyways?" I ask suspiciously, while looking down at my skirt. It's not even short.
"People are looking at you in there, and maybe it's because of what you're wearing," She throws her blunt on the ashtray that she has, and turns her attention to me staring fiercely into my eyes.
"Why does it matter? It's not like it's a bad thing." I say, now worried at this point. I don't know what's going through her mind as she comes closer to me, again my back is against the wall beside the balcony railing.
"It is a bad thing because it seems everyone in there wants to f**k you, and for some damn reason it's bothering me." Heaven says lowly, barely audible.
I just stand here quietly now knowing what to do or say. I'm in a source of distress not knowing how to react. Is she jealous or something? There's no way she's jealous. She has a boyfriend for f**k sakes. I feel my phone vibrate against my skirt pocket, but I ignore it to see what's happening next.
Before I know it she tilts her head to look into my eyes, and then moving closer to where I feel her chest on mine.
I gulp nervously. What's happening? Is she going to kill me?!
At least let me say goodbye in the proper way, like damn!
She puts one hand on my waist, then the other one to my cheek as she caresses it.
At this point, I already know she's going to kiss me. Right? I mean why else are you holding my waist and caressing my cheek? Unless, you're a psycho and do that before you kill someone to death.
She leans in where her lips are align with mine. As she was going to lean in, I hear a faint, "Heaven, and Valentina get in here please!" Heaven immediately shifts herself away from me and leaves on her heel.
Well damn.....was my worst enemy going to kiss me?
