Chapter 4

The surrounding crowd stirred, and a few older women muttered among themselves. "That's too much, really too much..." "Yeah, she's getting beaten to death..." But still, no one dared to step forward and stop Ivo. Instead, more people pulled out their phones. Daphne finally realized that things had gotten serious. She grabbed Ivo's arm, her voice cracking. She cried, "Ivo, stop hitting her... You'll kill her!... Let's go, let's get out of here..." Ivo shook her off. He snarled, "Go? Like hell we're leaving! If I don't teach this old hag a lesson today, she won't know how insignificant she is!" The moment he finished speaking, he kicked Margot in the stomach. Margot rolled over on the ground, groaning in pain. Her hand fumbled in her pocket. After a long while, she finally pulled out an old basic phone with a cracked screen. Ivo didn't back down. He only laughed harder. He said, "Oh, you want to call your people? Fine, I'll give you time." Ivo squatted down and patted Margot's face. He added, "I'm waiting. You'd better call your entire family here. I want to see what kind of big-shot relatives a backwater old lady like you could possibly have." Margot ignored him, merely trembling as she pressed a speed dial button and brought the phone to her ear. She said weakly, "Miles, I am... at the Rose Garden... being beaten..." Ivo doubled over with laughter. He exclaimed, "Miles? What the hell kind of name is that?" He turned to Daphne and said, "Daphne, did you hear that? Miles, it's probably the name of her dog." Ivo walked to the side, picked up the shovel he'd used to dig up the tree, and hefted it. He declared, "I'm telling you, not even God could save you today." He raised the shovel, aiming it at Margot's leg, which was already a bloody mess. He snarled, "I'm going to cripple your leg today. Let's see how you pull your little stunts after this." The shovel rose high, whistling through the air, about to come crashing down. I shouted, "No!" Instinct overtook reason, sending me charging forward. Right then, a low, terrifying engine roar approached from the distance. Everyone instinctively looked up. All heads turned toward the sound. A black Bentley smashed through the ornate wrought‑iron gates of Castle Rose Garden, sending the massive gate panels flying to either side and crashing into the ground with a thunderous roar. Immediately after, a convoy of more than twenty identical black Bentleys streamed in, halting on the open ground outside the Rose Garden in a chillingly precise formation. The doors opened in unison. Nearly a hundred men in black suits and sunglasses stepped out, moving in perfect synchronization to silently form a human wall around the perimeter. The noisy crowd fell into instant, deathly silence. Everyone looked up, staring dumbfounded at the cinematic scene unfolding before them. A man stepped out from the lead Bentley. He was tall, dressed in an exquisitely tailored black suit. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing his collarbones, pale and sharp. A prominent old scar was visible there, but rather than appearing hideous, it lent him a cold, savage edge. He swept his gaze over the scene, and when his eyes fell on Margot lying on the ground, they narrowed. He strode over, and the surrounding crowd instinctively parted to make way for him. Ivo froze, the shovel still raised in his hand. The expression on his face shifted from arrogance to horror. The man walked up to Margot and slowly crouched down. He asked, "Mom, who hit you?"
