Two cars parked in front of a very big building, the Palace of the Blood MoonPack.
Selene's parents stepped out of one, her and her sister, the other.
Selene took a deep breath as she looked up at the palace. It was an impressive building, with high towers and grand columns. The front entrance was decorated with beautiful carvings and flowers. It was like something out of a fairy tale, and Selenecouldn't help but feel a little bit awed by it all.
“It's beautiful right?" Selene asked her sister, smiling.
But Grace looked at her with a frown.
“Don't feel we're friends and that you can ask me questions. Now stay away from me! “ She fired as she walked away from where Selenestood.
Selenealways wondered what she must have done to deserve that treatment from her sister.
They all went into the building. The hall was filled with guests as they spoke to one another in hushed tones.
Her parents went to say hi to their friends, and Grace did the same.
Selene was all alone. She went to stand at a corner and she watched what was going on.
She was still enjoying her view when a man suddenly appeared in front of her.
He grabbed her wrist, taking her unaware as he took her to the middle of the hall.
Selene was in shock as she wondered what was happening, Then she felt it, what she'd never think she'd feel, the thing that made her parents so mad at her. The mate bond. She found her mate at last, but who was the scary man that seemed to be her mate?
“What nonsense. “ Selene heard him hiss in danger as she wondered why he acted that way. She always wanted to meet her mate the moment she clocked eighteen but that never happened and she received multiple insults from home, but there he was holding her and she could feel the strong connection between them.
Suddenly, everything made sense. The strong connection, the feeling of belonging, the rush of happiness. Jax was her mate. And she was his. She looked into his eyes, and she saw the same nothing but hatred
Jax was the Alpha of the Blood Moonpack. The man who was hosting the party.
"I can't believe it," she whispered, feeling so happy not caring about the hatred she had perceived from Jax, she felt happy that she'd finally get a mate to love her but what came next broke her completely.
“The moon goddess can't be serious.." he chuckled as his voice vibrated in the whole room.
“A Wolfless Omega like you can never rule beside me..” he shook his head dismissively and Selene felt her heart shattering to pieces.
Selene felt like someone had stabbed her in the heart. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
“You're not good enough for me! “ He said distastefully.
" A Wolfless Omega like you can never be able to protect her people.. “ she shook his head looking at Selene with so much hatred.
He was glad when he felt the mate bond, but never expected it to be a nobody. He hated Seleneand did not hide that.
Selene felt her heart shattering even more at his words. She knew that as a wolfless Omega, she was seen as weak and unworthy by many. But she had always believed that she could prove them wrong. She could be strong, she could be capable. But now, her own mate was telling her that she would never be good enough.
"Why?" she asked, her voice breaking, as a tear dropped from her eyes.
“What's your name?" He asked her in a curt tone but Selenekept quiet.
“I'm asking a question!!! What's your name!!!” He yelled so hard that everyone flinched feeling a cold spine run through them.
“Selene Bloom” she replied in a shaky voice.
“I, Jax Justin, the Alpha of the BloodMoon pack, reject you, Selene Bloom of the BloodMoon pack as my fated mate.." And that was it. Selenefelt a pain coursing through her body.
Selene gasped as she felt the rejection, like a thousand knives stabbing her all at once. She fell to her knees, clutching her chest as the pain intensified. She felt her heart breaking, her soul shattering. She had never felt such agony, such despair. She looked up at Jax, pleading with him, but he looked away.
The people in the room were stunned, some whispering among themselves, others shaking their heads in pity. Selene felt like a broken doll, discarded and forgotten. The one person whom she had hoped would understand her, who would love her, had rejected her.
With tears in her eyes, she turned to leave. It was the biggest embarrassment ever, getting rejected by the king.
She was about to leave, when someone grabbed her.
“Where do you think you're going?" It was Grace .
“I'm going home.." Selene replied in a low voice.
“I wish. Dad says not to leave this place. He's so mad at you. You disgraced the family today. Huh! You should hang yourself Selene, you're so unlucky.." Grace fired at her, she loved the look on her sister's face when she was rejected and she wanted Seleneto remain at the party to embarrass her.
“Don't leave orders from dad!” She warned as she let her sister go before walking away from her to try and accomplish her mission that night. Seduce the king and gain his favor..
Selene wiped the tears off the corner of her eyes, her father would definitely lash out at her at home. She really wanted to be away from everyone, right at that moment, clutching her bag tighter, she made her way upstairs.
She wanted to have a quiet time alone.
Jax groaned as his beta and friend helped him get inside a room as he helped him sit on the bed.
“Find me a woman.." he gritted his teeth, the drug his brother used to Spike his drink was already having its effects.
The beta Caleb looked at him in surprise. "What?" he asked, not sure he had heard correctly.
